Jacksonville, FL – On January 24, the Jacksonville Immigrant Rights Alliance (JIRA) organized over 250 protesters in front of their county courthouse. The action marks the one-year anniversary of both Trump's second term, and the founding of the Jacksonville Immigrant Rights Alliance in the wake of Trump's aggressive attack on immigrants.
Minneapolis, MN – ICE has committed its second open murder of 2026 in the Twin Cities, with the fatal shooting of a legal observer on Nicollet Avenue in Minneapolis on the morning of January 24. The Minnesota Immigrant Rights Action Committee (MIRAC), quickly had members on the scene to document and began planning a vigil for the fallen community member.
The shooting was witnessed and documented by several bystanders, some of whom were then detained by ICE. In a widely circulated video from one bystander, five to six ICE agents can be seen swarming, tackling and pistol-whipping a community member. As the civilian kneels, surrounded by agents, one agent shoots him. The agents then begin to back up, and at least one of them shoots the community member several more times as he lies motionless on the ground.
Portland, OR – A January 21 protest at Portland City Hall to demand the revocation of the permit for the Portland ICE facility erupted as protesters shut down the city council meeting and were violently ejected from the building by Portland police.
Portland Contra Las Deportaciones called for the event after the Minneapolis murder of Renee Good and the Portland shooting by Border Patrol of Nino-Moncada and Yorlenys Betzabeth Zambrano-Contreras. Given the escalation in violence by ICE, the group urged city council and Portland Mayor Keith Wilson to take immediate action to shut down the ICE facility.
Minneapolis, MN – On Friday, January 23, at 2 p.m., it was -11 degrees F with -40 windchill when over 50,000 Minnesotans bundled up in layers and scarves braved the extreme cold. They gathered in a park near US Bank Stadium in downtown Minneapolis to demand that ICE leave the Twin Cities and greater Minnesota.
By 1 p.m. the park was already beginning to fill up with people arriving early to avoid clogged traffic and backed-up light rail trains coming into the area, getting crowded with Minnesotans coming to the march. By 2 p.m., there was no way to see the edges of the protest from inside the crowd, even when standing on benches to get a better view, as it stretched many blocks in all directions and around corners, flooding a large section of downtown.
Minneapolis, MN – On January 21, the Minnesota Immigrant Rights Action Committee (MIRAC) held a press conference outside Mayor Jacob Frey’s office to respond to the federal agents’ ongoing assault upon the people of Minneapolis, and to demand that city officials prosecute the violent agents harming our communities, rather than the people reacting to that harm.

Today, January 24th ICE has shot and killed another ICE community observer in Minneapolis. On January 15th, ICE also shot Venezuelan immigrant Julio Cesar Sosa-Celis in the same city. This comes less than 3 weeks after Renee Good was killed! ICE is on a killing rampage, escalating their attacks. These killings are on top of more than 30 people who have died while in ICE custody.
Dallas, TX– On Friday, January 16, the National Alliance Against Racist and Political Repression (NAARPR) Dallas organized a noise demonstration against ICE agents being housed at taxpayers’ expense in at Hilton Anatole. People from all over the DFW community arrived and showed that the community does not stand for the kidnapping and brutalizing of friends and neighbors.

Chicago, IL – On January 13, over 40 students rallied on the University of Illinois Chicago campus in response to ICE’s murder of Renee Nicole Good, and to demand justice for all victims of ICE terror. Students responded to the national week of action by the National Students for a Democratic Society.

Minneapolis, MN – The People’s Action Coalition Against Trump (PACAT) organized a massive mobilization to protest Jake Lang’s planned “Crusader March,” where he announced that he would burn a Quran on the steps of City Hall before marching into the predominantly Somali Cedar-Riverside neighborhood.
He and a handful of other racists were confronted by extreme cold weather. They were shut down and chased away by an overwhelming crowd of at least 1000, who answered PACAT’s call for a “Protest to defend our neighbors!”
Trump is responding to Minnesota’s wave of struggle against mass deportations by threating to invoke the Insurrection Act. If he does so, it will be a case of lifting a rock only to drop it on one’s own feet.
In December the Department of Homeland Security announced the Twin Cities would be the focus of “Operation Metro Surge,” accompanied by the claim it would be the largest anti-immigrant action in U.S. history.
The response was mass protests and confrontations with ICE agents on the ground. On January 7 Renee Good was murdered by ICE and the result was a storm of struggle, including a 100,000-person march in Minneapolis and demonstrations all over the U.S.
Seattle, WA – 30 people in council chambers came together January 13, for a protest organized by the Seattle Alliance Against Racist and Political Repression (SAARPR) to demand the Seattle city council strengthen its stance against ICE.
Tallahassee, FL – On January 14, Tallahassee locals gathered at the city commission meeting to demand accountability. Those in attendance had three main goals: the reversal of the 287(g) agreement, the reversal of the sale of the public golf course containing the graves of formerly enslaved people, and that the commission vote no on the sale of Tallahassee Memorial Hospital to Florida State University.
Chicago, IL – Over 1000 Chicagoans gathered on Thursday, January 8, in Pilsen, the heart of Chicago’s Chicano community, to demand city officials hold Chicago Police (CPD) officers accountable for collaborating with ICE during the terroristic operation Midway Blitz.
Chicago, IL – Over 600 community members and organizers gathered at the Little Village Arch in vigil and protest in solidarity with the immigrant rights movement in Minneapolis on Wednesday, January 7. Protesters demanded justice for all victims of ICE, ICE out of everywhere, and legalization for all immigrants living in the U.S. as a part of a national emergency call for action called by the Legalization for All Network in response to the murder of Renee Nicole Good.

On Wednesday, January 14 at about 7:00pm, the Minnesota Immigrant Rights Action Community (MIRAC) received reports of an ICE shooting at 6th St & 24th Ave in North Minneapolis. Reports confirm a community member was shot in the leg by ICE thugs. He is alive, but was taken away by ambulance. As the events unfolded, ICE officers also denied medical care to a pregnant woman present inside the home.
Tampa, FL – On January 13, approximately 70 people attended a rally at the intersection of USF Palm and Fletcher to demand ICE off campus and justice in the wake of the killing of Nicole Renee Good in Minneapolis.
The protest was organized by Tampa Bay Students for a Democratic Society as a call to action against ICE.
Northampton, MA – On Sunday, January 11, the River Valley chapter of FRSO co-sponsored a rally with local activist groups demanding an end to both ICE funding and presence in their communities.
Santa Ana, CA – On Friday, January 9, about 300 protesters chanted “Justice for Renee Good” and “ICE out of Santa Ana” at the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement Field Office on Civic Center. They held a spray painted banner that read “Fuck ICE!” and signs reading “We demand justice!”
New Orleans, LA – On Monday evening, January 12, members of Students for a Democratic Society (SDS) from Tulane University and Loyola University gathered to host a protest in honor of Renee Nicole Good and other victims horrifically murdered by ICE. Around 40 people attended.
