Chicago, IL – Joe Iosbaker, a prominent Chicago-based anti-war leader, is urging opposition to the rapidly escalating U.S./Saudi war on the people of Yemen. “Anti-war forces must condemn military aggression by the Saudi king against the people of Yemen. U.S. imperialism is fully behind this, of course. The U.S. wanted to continue to target Yemen for their drone warfare operations in that country, as well as in the Horn of Africa, to attack Somalia and elsewhere.”
Minneapolis, MN – Midwest anti-war leaders had harsh world to say about Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu’s March 3 speech to Congress. Netanyahu was invited to speak before Congress by the House Republican leadership, a move that drew fire from the Obama administration and some congressional Democrats.
St. Paul, MN – Kurt Daudt, a politician who has made a specialty out of bashing low-income people, was elected speaker of the Minnesota House of Representatives, Jan.6, by the incoming Republican majority. Outside the House chambers, where the election took place, members of the Welfare Rights Committee loudly demanded that welfare grants be doubled and that aid should be extended to all in need.
St. Paul, MN – The chant “What do we want? Raise the grants! When do we want it? Now!” boomed throughout the Minnesota State Capitol building, Jan. 6, as low-income people marched in demanding that the legislature double welfare grants and pass a law that will provide immediate assistance to all in need. The protest, organized by the Welfare Rights Committee, coincided with opening day of the 2015 legislative session.
Bloomington, MN – Thousands of protesters shut down large sections of the biggest shopping mall in the U.S., the Mall of America (MOA), in the early afternoon of Dec. 20, demanding an end to police brutality. The mall rotunda was filled demonstrators with raised arms, chanting “Hands up, don’t shoot!”
Detroit, MI – Michael E. Deutsch, one of the attorneys on the defense team of prominent Palestinian American leader Rasmea Odeh, filed a motion to Federal Court here, Nov. 14, asking Judge Gershwin Drain to reconsider his decision to revoke her bond.
Minneapolis, MN – About 40 people rallied here in the midst of a major snowstorm Nov. 10 to demand the immediate release of Palestinian American leader Rasmea Odeh. Odeh was found guilty of a trumped-up immigration charge in Detroit that same day and Federal Judge Gershwin Drain revoked her bail. She will be jailed until her sentencing on March 15, 2015.
Minneapolis, MN – About 25 people joined at the Federal Building here, Oct. 2 at 4:30 p.m., to demand an end to government repression against Palestinian American leader Rasmea Odeh and to support the struggle against the occupation of Palestine.
St. Paul, MN – About 40 people gathered here for Women Against Military Madness’ weekly Friday Palestine vigil, Aug. 8, at the intersection of Summit and Snelling Avenues. Protesters chanted, “From the river to the sea, Palestine will be free!”
Minneapolis, MN – More than 300 people gathered in the Cedar Riverside area here, July 14, to oppose the U.S.-backed Israeli war on Palestine. Braving a torrential rainstorm, protesters were met by enthusiastic support from passersby in the mainly Somali neighborhood.
St. Paul, MN – About 250 supporters of Palestine rallied here, July 11, to protest Israel’s brutal assault on Gaza. More than 100 people have been killed by Israeli airstrikes over the last several days. These air attacks often target homes. There are indications that Israel is preparing for a ground invasion of Gaza.
Los Angeles, CA – “Sheriff Baca led a reign of terror on immigrants, especially against Mexican and Latinos,” states veteran Chicano leader Carlos Montes. Baca made the public announcement Jan. 7 that he would be stepping down as the head of the largest sheriff department in the U.S. “He believed that undocumented people did not have any civil rights,” said Montes.
Minneapolis, MN – According to widespread reports in the Western press, the U.S. sent two B-52 bombers into China’s newly established East China Sea Air Defense Identification Zone on Nov. 26. According to the reports, the U.S. provocation involved ignoring the Air Defense Identification Zone regulations, which require aircrafts to make their presence and flight plans known.
Minneapolis, MN – U.S. and Japanese authorities are making threats against People’s China in the wake of China’s Nov. 23 establishment of the East China Sea Air Defense Identification Zone.
Minneapolis, MN – Chanting “Justice for Rasmea, drop the charges now,” about 35 protesters gathered in front of the Federal Building here, Nov. 13, to stand in solidarity with the widely respected Chicago Palestinian community leader Rasmea Odeh. The protest, which coincided with Odeh’s arraignment in Detroit’s federal court, was one of the solidarity actions held around the U.S. Odeh is facing a possible ten year sentence and deportation on a trumped up immigration charge.
