Minneapolis protests Israeli war on Palestine
Minneapolis, MN – More than 300 people gathered in the Cedar Riverside area here, July 14, to oppose the U.S.-backed Israeli war on Palestine. Braving a torrential rainstorm, protesters were met by enthusiastic support from passersby in the mainly Somali neighborhood.
More than 180 Palestinians have been killed as Israel targets homes in Gaza. Palestinian resistance organizations have remained steadfast in the face of the Israeli assault. The government of Israel is armed and funded by U.S.
Sabry Wazwaz, of the Minnesota Anti-War Committee, called on rally participants to make a greater effort to build solidarity with Palestine. Wazwaz lead the crowd in chanting, “From the river to the sea! Palestine will be free!” The sound of the protest could be heard blocks away.
Meredith Aby-Keirstead of the Anti-War Committee spoke about the case of Rasmea Odeh, a Chicago Palestinian leader who is facing jail and deportation on trumped-up charges. She urged demonstrators to join the effort to beat back this case of political repression. Another protest in solidarity with Palestine will take place in Minneapolis Friday, July 18 at 4:30 p.m., at 44th Avenue NE and Central Avenue.
