Demands are to pass Sanctuary City Platform and create a Minneapolis Police Accountability Council
Minneapolis, MN – On Jan. 12, the Minnesota Immigrant Rights Action Committee (MIRAC) and the Twin Cities Coalition for Justice 4 Jamar (TCC4J) made their presence felt at the first meeting of the newly-elected Minneapolis city council.

Organizers say they are uniting to protest racist police brutality and the sellout of the city to greedy NFL owners and corporate sponsors.

Minneapolis, MN – On Jan. 8, President Trump announced the end of Temporary Protected Status (TPS) for around 200,000 Salvadorans living in the United States. TPS for Salvadorans will be phased out in 18 months. This comes after Trump has already ended TPS for Haitians and Nicaraguans, and soon Hondurans will almost surely lose TPS as well. While the loss of TPS for any country is an injustice, the number of Salvadorans with TPS is more than all other nationalities combined.
Minneapolis, MN – On the One-year anniversary of Donald Trump’s inauguration, protesters will gather at 1 p.m., Mayday Plaza (301 Cedar Avenue S.), to say “Trump out now! No wars! No Muslim ban!” The rally will be followed by a march to the Republican party headquarters.

Minneapolis, MN – On the day after Christmas, Dec. 26, a group of activists from the Minnesota Immigrant Rights Action Committee (MIRAC) brought day-late gift-wrapped ‘presents’ and a Christmas tree to the Minneapolis office of Senator Amy Klobuchar emblazoned with messages of “Clean Dream Act now,” “Keep families together” and “No more deportations.”
Minneapolis, MN – 150 people rallied at the federal courthouse in downtown Minneapolis, Dec. 18, to oppose Trump’s announcement naming Jerusalem the capital of Israel. The protest was organized by Palestinian youth, including Students for Justice in Palestine-UMN. The call for Palestinian liberation was clearly the central theme of the event with loud chants of “Free, free Palestine” being heard throughout of the protest.
Minneapolis, MN – In response to the growing danger of a new U.S. war in Korea and the endless series of U.S. wars, a coalition of Twin Cities-area peace groups have issued an appeal urging people to send an anti-war message for the holidays by being part of a visible anti-war action.
Minneapolis, MN – A group of union members and community activists from Twin Cities Coalition for Justice 4 Jamar confronted Hennepin County Prosecutor Mike Freeman for dragging his feet in the case of Justine Damond, who was killed by Minneapolis police officer Mohamed Noor in July. After investigators turned over evidence in the case in September, Freeman had promised a decision by the end of the year. Freeman was caught on tape in a conversation at the Minneapolis Regional Labor Federation holiday reception on Wednesday evening. In that conversation, Freeman blamed the wait on investigators who he says have not given him the evidence he needs to bring charges in Damond's death.
