Minneapolis, MN – More than 50 people gathered here March 8, to celebrate International Women’s Day. The event, organized by Freedom Road Socialist Organization (FRSO), included a showing of the film “With Babies and Banners: Story of the Women's Emergency Brigade”, about the powerful role of women in the historic 1936-37 Flint Sit-down Strike at General Motors.

Jess Sundin, a leader of FRSO, spoke about the need for revolutionary organization to overthrow capitalism and establish socialism.

The main speaker of the evening, Tracy Molm, also of FRSO said, “Today we are here to stand up and recognize the amazing contributions of women to build the people’s struggles. Women like Clara Zetkin, Assata Shakur, Maha Nasar, Liliani Obando. They stood up despite a system built to ensure that we are not free. despite state repression. As many know, we have some experience in Minneapolis with repression. And despite this repression, myself and 22 others, most of whom are women, stand strong.”

Molm and Sundin are two of the anti-war and international solidarity activists who were raided by the FBI in 2010 and subpoenaed to grand jury investigating ‘material support for terrorism,’ Both refused to testify.
