Chicago, IL – I’ve been waiting for this book. I first read an earlier draft of Frank Chapman’s memoirs in 2014. I thought then and now that this needed to get published, first and foremost, because the revolutionary movement needs it. As a result of the prison abolition movement, there is a broad awareness of the injustice of mass incarceration, but this book sees the revolutionary side of the misery.

Washington, D.C. – In a June 16 statement, the U.S. military admitted that a large unmanned aircraft, a drone with a 66-foot wing span, was shot down over Yemen. According to a statement from the U.S. Central Command, CENTCOM, “a U.S. MQ-9 was shot down over Yemen by what we assess to be a Houthi SA-6 surface to air missile on Jun 6, 2019. The altitude of the engagement indicated an improvement over previous Houthi capability…” A single MQ-9 costs about $16 million.

Rasmea Odeh addresses the Peoples Forum in New York City

New York, NY – A crowd gathered at The People’s Forum on June 9 to hear Rasmea Odeh and Suzanne Adely speak on the repression of the Palestinian solidarity movement by the United States and Israel. Rasmea Odeh is a famous Palestinian woman leader who has dedicated her life to the Palestinian struggle and liberation of her people. She was a former political prisoner of Israel, and had her human rights violated. Odeh later became the target of political repression in the United States in 2013, after FBI raids and grand jury subpoenas targeting the Antiwar 23 were defeated.

Contingent for Puerto Rican independence marches in Puerto Rican Day Parade

New York, NY – 200 people marched in a contingent demanding Puerto Rican independence from the United States, June 9 at the Puerto Rican Day Parade. The parade is one of the largest demonstrations of Puerto Rican national pride in the United States. It spans 35 New York City blocks. The day celebrates the art, history, and culture of the 3.5 million Puerto Ricans resident on the island, and the 5 million Puerto Ricans living in the mainland U.S.

San José, CA – More cracks showed up in the U.S. economic expansion as the May employment report saw a gain of only 75,000 net new jobs, less than half what most economists expected. In addition, the Labor Department revised the job creation numbers down by 75,000 for March and April. Over the last four months the economy has added new jobs at a rate of 130,000 per month, much less than the 223,000 new jobs added each month on average in 2018.
