Austin, TX – On February 26, at 5 p.m., around 80 students, faculty and university affiliates gathered at the South Lawn of the University of Texas at Austin to protest the recent announcement of the elimination of the departments of Mexican-American and Latino Studies, African and African Diaspora Studies, Women’s, Gender, and Sexuality Studies, and American Studies. The departments will lose departmental status and be consolidated into a new department of Social and Cultural Analysis.
Tallahassee, FL – On February 12, over a dozen students of Florida A&M University gathered at the university’s iconic Eternal Flame to stand up against the consolidation of numerous degree programs, including the university’s Black history programs.
Chicago, IL – On Tuesday, February 24, over 30 students and community members gathered in University of Illinois Chicago’s (UIC) Black Cultural Center for a screening of Judas and the Black Messiah, followed by a guided discussion led by comrades in the Chicago district of the Freedom Road Socialist Organization (FRSO).
New Orleans, LA — On February 24, students from the Black Students Resistance Network (BSRN), a Students for a Democratic Society (SDS) affiliate at Xavier University of Louisiana, organized a panel of activists from around the New Orleans area to discuss how and why students should fight for progressive policies on their campuses and in their communities.
New Orleans, LA — On February 23, around 35 protesters came together to protest a CIA recruitment event at Tulane. The rally, organized by Together United Louisiana Students for a Democratic Society (TUL SDS) took place on Freret Street, an intersection at the heart of Tulane’s campus.
San Jose, CA – On February 17, a dozen San José State University students gathered outside the administrative building to protest corporate war profiters that were participating in the Career Center’s Job & Internship. Students held signs that read “No war with Venezuela” and “Free Palestine.”
New York, NY – On February 20, over 30 NYU students and faculty gathered near Garibaldi Plaza during a rainy day to demand NYU become a sanctuary campus.
The rally was organized by the Students for a Democratic Society chapter at NYU (NYU SDS) with a dozen other student organizations endorsing the action.
New York, NY – On February 18, NYU Langone announced that it would cut gender-affirming care for trans youth. In a statement, the hospital said, “given the recent departure of our medical director, coupled with the current regulatory environment, we made the difficult decision to discontinue our Transgender Youth Health Program.”
Oxford, MS – On February 21, around a dozen students and youth gathered at the Pavilion at the University of Mississippi to discuss setting up a Students for a Democratic Society chapter.
This meeting comes after two days of organizing from students and SDS officers who traveled from Louisiana and Minnesota in order to help establish new SDS chapters. These SDS members set up a table, covered it in flyers, sign-up sheets, and printed resolutions, and draped a banner over it that read: “Keep ICE off campus! Stand up to Trump! Sanctuary campus now!”
Bozeman, MT – At Montana State University, Students for a Democratic Society won their campaign to have U.S. Customs and Border Patrol kicked out of the university's spring career fair.
Tacoma, WA – On February 6, 375 students walked out from Washington High School and Keithley Middle School before the final class period of the day, joining the movement of students across the country who are standing up to ICE.
Tallahassee, FL – On February 5, Tallahassee Students for a Democratic Society (SDS) and FSU Young Democratic Socialists of America (YDSA) mobilized 90 people for a rally at the Integration Statue next to the FSU Student Union. The protesters then marched to Tanner Hall, FSUPD’s headquarters, to denounce its 287(g) agreement, which was signed behind closed doors and not shared publicly.
Tacoma, WA – On January 12, students at IDEA High School walked out of class to stand up against ICE in their community. Over 100 students marched to a busy intersection and then continued to circle the intersection marching in the crosswalks as passing drivers honked their horns in support.
Tampa, FL – UCF’s Students for a Democratic Society is taking steps to deepen its ties to organized labor and the working class by holding an event they dubbed “From The Classroom to The Shop Floor,” February 5, inviting representatives from local labor unions to explain their experiences organizing and labor solidarity to the students.
Tampa, FL – Dozens of students from Wharton High School walked out on February 9 in protest of the Trump administration's vicious attacks on immigrants. Students chanted “No justice, no peace, no ICE in our streets” and other students cheered from buses as they left at the end of the school day.
New Orleans, LA – A group of concerned students at Loyola University of New Orleans delivered a letter demanding more protections for immigrant students on Tuesday, February 10 to Loyola President Dr. Xavier Cole. The group of roughly 15 students caught the president on his way to a crowded campus event where the confrontation was seen by numerous community members.

Saginaw, TX – On February 9, over 200 students and community members from Boswell High in Saginaw, Texas marched in protest over the ongoing violence ICE has used against their community. This march comes after a walkout that the students of Boswell High organized on February 2, which brought threats of suspensions and expulsions upon the student body from Principal Ryan Wilson.
Tampa, FL – On February 6, over 25 high school students from Blake High School in Tampa, Florida walked out to protest Trump's attacks on immigrants around the country.
