Cambridge, MA – Oct. 24 marks day 20 of the Harvard University Dining Service (HUDS) workers’ strike. The HUDS union, UNITE HERE Local 26, has been negotiating since May of this year with management. Harvard bosses refuse to budge on two key demands: fair healthcare and sustainable salaries for all full-time employees.

Minneapolis, MN – Ukrainian Special Forces assassinated Arsen Pavlov, a hero of the Donbass region’s fight against domination by the Ukraine, on Oct. 16. A bomb detonated in the elevator of his apartment building killed Pavlov, a battalion commander who is also known by his call name “Motorola”. The Donetsk Ministry of Defense labeled this an act of terrorism by the Ukraine government.

Tucson, AZ – Hundreds of activists from across the country convened in southern Arizona for this year’s School of the Americas Watch: Converge on the U.S./Mexico Border. The event was held on Oct. 7-8 to bring attention to U.S. wars and intervention in Latin America, the continued militarization of the Mexico border, the pressing refugee crisis, and the criminalization and incarceration of undocumented migrants.

Boston, MA -Harvard, the world’s wealthiest university, saw its first workers’ strike in over 30 years this week as Harvard University Dining Service (HUDS) food service workers, members of UNITE HERE Local 26, took to the picket lines on Oct. 5. Workers were in contract negotiations with the Harvard administration since the end of May. The administration is refusing to budge on key workers’ demands including equitable healthcare, year-round employment, and a racial justice task force to promote equality at work.

Lufkin, TX – Students at Angelina College (AC) held a rally and march to protest police crimes against the African American community on Oct. 5. The action began in front of the AC Student Center, with 20 students and faculty.

Los Angeles, CA – In front of media cameras and surrounded by family and supporters, Teresa Dominguez, the mother of Jesse Romero, demanded justice for her son. The Oct. 6 press conference announced the filing of a government claim against the City of Los Angeles and the LAPD for the killing of Romero. Lawyer Humberto Guizar pointed out that recently released videos contradict the police version of the killing. He blasted the LAPD for lying, saying that were was no way the police version can be truthful.

Minneapolis, MN – Striking members of the Minnesota Nurses Association (MNA) were standing strong on the picket line today, Oct.4, one day after rejecting a concessionary contract proposal. Anna Lee, a striking nurse said, “l voted no for my patients, my profession and the future.”

Minneapolis, MN – A Twin Cities area coalition has called a protest for Saturday, Oct. 8 to mark 15 years since the U.S. invasion of Afghanistan. The protest will call for an end to U.S. military interventions.
