Protesters demand the release of Ulises Peña Lopez.

McFarland, CA - On March 2, nine community members from the South Bay took part in a car caravan from Mexican Heritage Plaza in San Jose to the Golden State Annex ICE detention center in McFarland. The community members rallied near the detention center to show support for Ulises Peña Lopez, a South Bay man who was recently brutalized by ICE, resulting in his hospitalization. Lopez was transferred from the hospital directly to the detention center without his family or legal team being notified.

Day of Remembrance marked in San Jose, California.

San Jose, CA – On February 16, around 350 people gathered at San Jose Buddhist Church Betsuin to commemorate the signing of Executive Order 9066, which authorized the incarceration of over 120,000 Japanese-Americans in U.S. concentration camps during World War II.

Estudiantes de preparatoria en San José salen de clases para protestar contra las deportaciones.

San Jose, CA – Cientos de personas se manifestaron en el este de San José este lunes, 28 de enero, contra las recientes detenciones realizadas por ICE en un vecindario predominantemente chicano. La manifestación comenzó cuando cientos de estudiantes organizaron un paro estudiantil en la preparatoria Overfelt y marcharon hacia la intersección de King y Story Road. King y Story es un lugar histórico en el movimiento chicano y de derechos de los inmigrantes, y fue el punto de partida de las mega-marchas del pasado.

San Jose high school walkout to protest deportations.

San Jose, CA – Several hundred people protested in East San Jose on Monday, January 28, against recent arrests made by ICE in the predominantly Chicano neighborhood. The protest began when hundreds of students organized a walkout from Overfelt High School and marched to the King and Story Road intersection. King and Story is an historic location in the Chicano and immigrant rights movement, and was the starting place for past mega-marches.
