Minneapolis, MN – President Trump signed a U.S. sanctions bill against Russia, Iran and the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK) on August 1. In a hostile move, both the U.S. House and Senate voted by large majorities to target the oil and gas industries of Russia, the space and nuclear industries of Iran, and the international banking and financial institutions dealing with the DPRK.
Salt Lake City, UT – Over 150 people rallied in downtown Salt Lake to celebrate May 1, International Workers Day. Hosted by the Freedom Road Socialist Organization (FRSO), the event assembled activists and organizers from a wide array of progressive groups in the valley, including Students for a Democratic Society, Utah Against Police Brutality, Workers World Party as well as many new people eager to get involved in local politics.
West Chester, PA – On March 4, Freedom Road Socialist Organization (FRSO) hosted a workshop titled “Socialism 101: Students, Socialism & The Revolution” at West Chester University of Pennsylvania. The workshop included an introduction to socialist theory, followed by discussion on applying socialist theory to the student movement.
Houston, TX – Over 30 students at the University of Houston participated in a protest against police brutality on Sept. 16. They began with a rally in front of the MD Anderson library on campus, with signs reading, “Black lives matter,” “End police brutality” and “Stop racist killer cops.”
Tallahassee, FL – On September 10th, thirty-five students and community members gathered from Florida and North Carolina to participate in a day school hosted by members of the Student Commission of the Freedom Road Socialist Organization (FRSO). The event consisted of presentations on revolutionary theory and how students apply it to their activism.
Salt Lake City, UT – Members of Freedom Road Socialist Organization (FRSO) and Students for a Democratic Society (SDS) presented the basics of Marxism-Leninism to a group of 30 community members, students, and local organizers on July 9. The presenters focused on the fundamentals of capitalism and socialism, the struggle of oppressed nationalities in the U.S. and abroad, and the need for a communist party of the multinational working class.

May Day is our day. It is International Workers Day. It is a day that is all about us, working and oppressed people, and our fight for a better life. The wealthy, the powerful billionaire class that rules this country, wallow in luxury 365 days a year. On May Day, we say, “Enough!” We are tired of being held down, pushed around and sold out. We cannot accept things the way they are.
Lufkin, TX – On April 1, members of the Freedom Road Socialist Organization (FRSO) held a socialism forum here in Lufkin. The purpose of the forum was to explain what socialism really is, what socialism in the U.S. would look like and what the path toward socialism might consist of. The forum drew an enthusiastic audience.
Minneapolis, MN – The political secretary of Freedom Road Socialist Organization, Steff Yorek, expressed condolences to the people of Belgium and Pakistan, especially those who lost family or loved ones in the March 22 Brussels bombings, the March 27 Lahore bombings, and others who suffered in similar anti-people attacks.

Minneapolis, MN – In the aftermath of the dramatic 5000-person protest that caused Trump to cancel his March 11 campaign appearance on the campus of the University of Illinois, Steff Yorek, the political secretary of Freedom Road Socialist Organization, urged progressive activists around the U.S. to follow Chicago’s example.
Tucson, AZ – A dozen activists, students and community members celebrated International Women’s Day, March 8, at Revolutionary Grounds bookstore. After a brief presentation on the history of the socialist-inspired day, the group discussed the contributions of revolutionary women past and present.
The Student Commission of the Freedom Road Socialist Organization (FRSO) met recently to discuss building the student movement into a force for change. The students made plans to organize with their friends in Students for a Democratic Society and other student groups, while recruiting more young revolutionaries to the FRSO.
Protests in Chicago have been occurring for weeks in reaction to a mass cover-up by the Chicago Police Department, Mayor Rahm Emanuel and Cook County State Attorney Anita Alvarez. LaQuan McDonald was a 17-year-old African American teen who was murdered – shot to death by Chicago police officer Jason Van Dyke in October 2014. Shortly after the murder, killer cop Van Dyke and the Chicago police tried to claim that McDonald had threatened the officer’s life. However, recently released police cruiser dashcam footage showed McDonald walking away from police officers as Van Dyke fired 16 bullets into his body. Many of those shots occurring as McDonald lay dying on the ground.
