Washington D.C. – According to an Aug. 2 news report from the Syrian Arab News Agency (SANA), “Seven civilians were killed and 25 others were injured due to terrorists attacks with rocket shells on residential neighborhoods in Aleppo, including one attack which used shells containing toxic gas.”

Tucson protest confronts Trump running mate Mike Pence.

Tucson, AZ – On Aug. 2, Donald Trump’s running mate, Mike Pence, held a town hall meeting at the historic Fox Theater in downtown Tucson. With little public notice and time, the immigrant rights action group L.U.P.E quickly rose to the challenge, organizing an emergency protest through social media, in order to counter the Republican Party’s agenda of hate.

Davao City, Mindanao, Philippines – During the International Conference for People’s Rights in the Philippines, Joe Iosbaker, of Fight Back! had the opportunity to meet and interview Elmer “Bong” Labog, Chair of Kilusang Mayo Uno (KMU), or May First Movement. The KMU is an independent and democratic labor center in the Philippines, promoting genuine, militant and anti-imperialist trade unionism.

Minneapolis, MN – Contract negotiations ended Aug. 1, when nurses received another offer from Allina Health that eliminates all four of their contract health insurance plans. The nurses’ negotiations team will take the offer to the membership to vote to accept or reject later this month.

Houston, TX – Over 20 students and community activists gathered at the Consulate of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, August 1, to celebrate the life and legacy of Hugo Chavez, the former president of Venezuela. The consul gave a presentation on Hugo Chavez, discussing how he transformed Venezuela and drastically improved the lives of the Venezuelan people.

Activists hand out flyers for August 6 anti-war protest

Minneapolis, MN – A coalition of Minneapolis/Saint Paul area groups will hold a protest this Saturday, Aug. 6. The protest was called to mark the 71st anniversary of the atomic bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki with a call for an end to the endless series of U.S. wars and military interventions.

Headquarters of FOP shut down.

Washington DC – Since 7 a.m. this morning, July 20, around 50 activists with Black Youth Project 100 in Washington D.C., Black Lives Matter DMV Chapter, along with other organizations have shut down the national headquarters of the Fraternal Order of Police. The Fraternal Order of Police is the largest police union in the U.S.

Protesters denounce police killings, mount statue of Andrew Jackson.

Jacksonville, FL – Over 500 people marched through downtown Jacksonville on July 10 demanding an end to racist police crimes. Local organizers affiliated with the #BlackLivesMatter movement called the protest in response to the recent murders of Alton Sterling in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, and Philando Castile in Minnesota.

Standing up to police terror in Chicago

Chicago, IL – 2000 to 3000 protesters, mostly high school students, marched through the streets of Chicago, July 11, to protest the recent police murders of Alton Sterling and Philando Castile. What started as a sit-in of youth joined together with a rally held by Black Lives Matter Chicago, the Chicago Alliance Against Racist and Political Repression, and Trinity United Church of Christ.

DC protest against police killings

Washington, D.C. – Protests continued here, July 10, as well over 600 protestors, mostly Black youth, took to the streets. Marching and shutting down H street, protesters marched into Union Station, demanding justice, shouting “Black lives matter!” Protesters eventually ended up on the front steps of the capitol building.
