Milwaukee post election protest.

Milwaukee, WI – On November 4, more than 150 protestors joined the march and car caravan put on by Milwaukee Alliance Against Racist and Political Repression (MAARPR). The protestors joined up at Sherman Park, an important landmark in Milwaukee that experienced an uprising against police violence in 2016. Youth Empowered in the Struggle (YES) set up a table for letter writing, to demand justice for “ThEE ThrEE”, two men and one child shot and killed by the same Wauwatosa Police Officer Joseph Mensah.

Tampa, FL- On November 4, the Tampa Bay Community Action Committee (TBCAC) and other community members gathered to demand that Donald Trump not steal the election. The event was a part of the National Alliance Against Racism and Political Repression’s day of action for a Post-Election Protest for a People's Mandate.

Rally marks victory over District Attorney Jackie Lacey.

Los Angeles, CA – More than 3 million voted by mail and in person on November 3 in Los Angeles. District Attorney Jackie Lacey was defeated in a hard-fought race for district attorney of Los Angeles County, the most populous in the United States. Reform candidate George Gascon beat Lacey.

New York, NY – By the evening of November 3, five rallies and actions had been called throughout the city for November 4. Progressive forces began calling events that ranged from “Count All the Votes” to a non-partisan indictment of both men running for president of the United States.

Chicago, IL – At least 1000 people marched through Chicago’s Loop in protest of the threats by Trump to steal the election. The organizations came together as the Illinois Election Defense Action Council to make sure every vote is counted. Many marchers also took up chants, “Trump out!” and “CPAC Now!” CPAC is a civilian police accountability council. Kobi Guillory of the Chicago Alliance Against Racist and Political Repression said from the stage, “When Donald Trump says he’s going to stay in power, we have to be the ones to remove him!”

Tampa students fight budget cuts despite repression from administration.

Tampa, FL – Students at the University of South Florida (USF) and concerned members of the Tampa community gathered at the entrance of the university, October 28, for a rally against recently implemented and proposed budget cuts. This rally, hosted by Tampa Bay Students for a Democratic Society (SDS), aimed to ensure that the school did not make any more cuts that would affect students and workers, and instead wanted USF to take cuts from the budget of the USF Police Department and highly-paid administrators.

Organize the unorganized!

Milwaukee workers march to back union organizing efforts.

Milwaukee, WI – Workers from multiple active union organizing campaigns marched through downtown Milwaukee on October 27 to rally support for the wave of new union organizing. Nearly 100 workers and supporters from the organizing campaigns at the Milwaukee Art Museum, Colectivo Coffee, Wonderstate Coffee, Marquette University and Captel joined forces for an impressive display of union strength. The march took the streets, stopping by several workplaces where union drives led primarily by young workers are ongoing.

Florida protest against blockade on Cuba.

Miami, FL – A caravan of some 60 cars and 15 bicycles made up a caravan against the Cuba blockade, October 25 in Miami. It was the fourth caravan here since July. Those in attendance overcame not only threats by right-wing Cubans in the area, but pouring rain in the early morning hours before the 8 a.m. departure.

Baltimore, MD – On the evening of October 28, 14 organizers who were affiliated with the Baltimore March and Car Caravan for November 4 had their Facebook pages disabled. All were administrators or editors on various Facebook pages that endorsed the action, and included Peoples Power Assembly, Youth Against War & Racism, Prisoner’s Solidarity Committee, Women In Struggle/Mujeres En Lucha, and Struggle La Lucha. This action effectively locked down all of these pages, denying thousands of members their constitutional rights.

LA rally against police killings pushes for ouster of DA Jackie Lacey and Trump.

Los Angeles, CA – A protest rally and get out the vote grassroots effort was done on October 25 in the East LA barrio of El Sereno by Centro CSO and Black Lives Matter-LA. Over 45 volunteers and families who have been victims of police killings participated call on all to vote November 3 to oust Los Angeles District Attorney Jackie Lacey and President Trump.

Striking IAM members in Appleton, WI.

Appleton, WI – On the morning of October 24, the following message was posted on the social media accounts of IAM Local 1855: “After a week-long strike IAMAW Members employed at AstenJohnson in Appleton overwhelmingly accepted a greatly improved contract offer this morning. This offer included locking in insurance plan design and premiums for the next two years among other positive changes. Their solidarity and persistence paid off big. Congratulations to the members of Local 1855 and a special thank you to the Teamsters Local 662 for honoring our picket line.”

Tampa students protest budget cuts, demand defunding of campus police.

Tampa, FL – On October 20, around 40 students and community members protested against the University of South Florida’s (USF) budget cuts and demanded defunding the campus police. Tampa Bay Students for a Democratic Society (SDS) held the protest as part of their Chop from the Top and the Cops campaign and a new demand for USF to keep the College of Education after recent news of the department’s closure.

Chicano attorney Humberto Guizar called for the Orange County District Attorney to reopen the investigation and file charges of murder against the two involved officers.

Juan Briceno Jr. and Blanca Briceno, brother and sister of Eric.

Los Angeles, CA – Family, neighbors, supporters and Centro Community Service Organization (CSO) attended an October 16 press conference, rally and celebration of the life of Eric Briceno, who was killed by East LA Sheriffs in Maywood, California. Other families who have lost loved ones to police killings also joined the Briceno family. Well-known civil rights attorney Samuel Paz had asked Centro CSO to help the Briceno family.
