Washington, DC – The Syrian Arab News Agency is reporting, March 17, that “Syrian air defense downed one of four Israeli warplanes that violated the Syrian airspace and targeted a military site in the eastern countryside of Homs.”
Washington D.C. – Twenty-five students protested the morning of March 2 on the campus of Howard University, one of the prominent historically Black colleges and universities (HBCU). African American students formed “Howard Resist” to demand President Wayne Frederick make Howard University a sanctuary campus and to criticize Frederick for his recent meeting with Donald Trump.
On Feb. 9, during the swearing-in ceremony for new Attorney General Jeff Sessions, Donald Trump signed three executive orders concerning policing. The orders were said to be directed at public safety but in fact could have a devastating impact on Black and brown communities.
The Trump administration has been discussing a proposal to mobilize up to 100,000 National Guard troops in the four states bordering Mexico (California, Arizona, New Mexico and Texas) as well as seven more bordering these states (Oregon, Nevada, Utah, Colorado, Oklahoma, Arkansas and Louisiana). The National Guard would be used for a massive round-up and deportation of millions of undocumented immigrants, which Trump has pledged to do. The round-up would be based on Trump’s Jan. 25 executive order, which expands to the target of deportations to virtually at least eight of the 11 million undocumented.
Washington D.C. – The Secretary General of Hezbollah, Sayyed Hasan Nasrallah, stated Feb. 12, that he was not worried about a “foolish” president occupying the U.S. White House. Hezbollah is a large, progressive, anti-imperialist political party that organized the defeat of an Israeli invasion in 2006.
According to a Feb. 4 report from Iran’s authoritative FARS News Agency, a commander in the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC), Brigadier General Amir Ali Hajizadeh, had harsh words for the Trump administration.
Washington DC – Israeli prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu hailed Trump’s plan to build a bigger wall and further militarize the U.S.-Mexico border, Jan. 28, tweeting, “President Trump is right. I built a wall along Israel's southern border. It stopped all illegal immigration. Great success. Great idea.”
Washington, D.C. – Labor officials in Washington D.C. are preparing for the worst and hoping for the best as Donald Trump assumes the office of president of the United States after losing the popular vote by 2.9 million votes but winning enough electoral votes from the states to assume the presidency. Trump secured his Electoral College win by squeaking ahead just slightly of corporate Democrat Hillary Clinton in states like Pennsylvania, Wisconsin and Michigan.
Hundreds of thousands of women and supporters gathered in DC, Jan. 21, to stand up to Trump’s agenda and march throughout the city. The protest was set for the day after Donald Trump was sworn as the 46th president. The organizers of the protest wanted to promote unity of all movements against bigotry and hate.
