Milwaukee, WI — Over 500 people marched through Milwaukee’s Riverwest neighborhood to stand in solidarity with the wounded protesters in Charlottesville and to remember Heather Heyer, the young woman murdered by a Nazi. The rally was called by the local chapters of the Industrial Workers of the World (IWW) and the Democratic Socialists of America (DSA).

The first session featured a panel of three women who spoke about their daily experiences and politics in Milwaukee. The second session explored economic inequality in Milwaukee and how the working class is exploited.

Milwaukee, WI – About 30 people gathered here, June 24, to stand in solidarity with socialist Cuba and Bolivarian Venezuela. The rally was called in response to President Trump’s unveiling of new restrictions on travel to Cuba.

Milwaukee, WI – This evening, June 12, 50 people gathered at the site of last night's police shooting on Milwaukee’s lakefront. Two African Americans, who had been pulled over and allegedly tried to drive away, were shot at least a dozen times by an on-foot officer. This happened at one of the busiest intersections on Milwaukee’s lakefront, in broad daylight, and was witnessed by hundreds of Milwaukeeans.

Milwaukee, WI – At dusk on the evening of June 11, a Milwaukee police officer shot, in front of hundreds of beachgoers, two unarmed African Americans who were driving a vehicle down the lakefront. Both individuals were in a car that had been pulled over. When the police told them to get out of the car, they allegedly tried to drive away. Then, another police officer who happened to be walking by on foot fired around a dozen bullets into the windshield of the vehicle, hitting the driver and his girlfriend and causing them to crash into a nearby vehicle. There were hundreds of witnesses, with the shooting happening right next to the busiest beach in the city. A massive crowd quickly gathered and dozens of police were called to the scene. Within an hour, the police had cordoned off the street nearly a mile in each direction, and had cordoned off the streets on the bluffs overlooking the shooting scene.

Milwaukee, WI – Buses came in from at least 12 cities across Wisconsin to march for this year’s May Day celebration. Since 2006, an annual rally and march has been held in Milwaukee, with this being one of the largest gatherings to date.

Milwaukee, WI – On March 29, the Venezuelan Supreme Court stripped the National Assembly of its authority and took over legislative responsibilities for the government. This decision, one which they have the constitutional authority to do, has been met with widespread condemnation in the U.S. Media sources like NPR and CNN have referred to it as a “self-coup d’etat” and the establishment of a “dictatorship” by Venezuelan President Maduro. Members of the right-wing opposition, always the first to call for violence, have even hinted at this being the beginning of civil war.

Milwaukee, WI – On March 7, management of the Milwaukee Public Museum (MPM) announced layoffs an cuts to hours for 14 members of AFSCME Local 526, which is 8% of the workforce. After six months of negotiations and two quick months after contract ratification, these hard-working men and women found out with zero warning that their position at the museum will either be cut or working hours permanently reduced. Those who are facing reduced hours will lose their health benefits and livable wages to support their families.

More than 500 people marched on a warm night, Feb. 20, in downtown Milwaukee to mark the one-month anniversary of Trump’s inauguration. The action was organized by the Milwaukee Coalition Against Trump (MCAT), a grassroots effort that has united much of the city’s progressive movement into a united fightback against the Trump agenda.

Hundreds gathered for a victory rally Feb. 2 organized by the Milwaukee Coalition Against Trump. Protesters celebrated their success in stopping Trump from visiting and holding a press event at a Harley-Davidson plant in Milwaukee County. Speakers at the rally celebrated shutting down his press event and put an emphasis on putting this momentum and energy back into the fight against his racist agenda.

The White House announced today, Jan. 31, that it would be canceling Trump's speaking event in the Milwaukee area on Thursday, Feb. 2. The news came after there was massive outcry against the decision, with the Milwaukee Coalition Against Trump (MCAT) spearheading the resistance.

Milwaukee, WI – About 300 people gathered here in freezing temperatures Saturday morning. Jan. 28, to rally against Donald Trump’s executive order banning immigration from seven Middle Eastern and north African countries.

Nearly 1000 people participated in a rally and march led by the Milwaukee Coalition Against Trump (MCAT), a grassroots effort by more than a dozen organizations to resist the Trump agenda. After a number of speakers addressed the demands of the coalition, which included Legalization for all; Indigenous sovereignty now, and Free Palestine. After the speeches, the march took off on a two-mile trek through downtown Milwaukee.

The Milwaukee Coalition Against Trump is organizing across the city to mobilize militancy in the streets Jan. 20.

On Nov. 20, roughly 300 people packed All People’s Church on Milwaukee’s north side to attend the first public meeting of the Milwaukee Coalition Against Trump (MCAT). The Coalition’s mission is to “build a broad and organized resistance led by a coalition of grassroots organizations to Stop Trump and his hateful agenda.”

Over 3200 people took the streets here, Nov. 10, to voice their dissatisfaction with President-elect Donald Trump. The march was led by the Young People's Resistance Committee (formerly known as Youth Empowered in the Struggle). Like many marches around the country, the people were angry.
