Tucson, AZ—“Que vivan los niños! Que Vivan!” Este era el grito de alrededor de 70 mujeres, hombres y niños, en las afuera de la librería publica del centro de Tucson el 30 de Julio. Una de las madres presente expreso: “Estamos aquí para apoyar a los niños de Guatemala, El Salvador y Honduras, que están huyendo de las gangas, de la violencia y de la pobreza”.
Tucson, AZ – On the evening of July 31, a dozen activists rallied outside the Tucson District Court of Arizona in an emergency action supporting Rasmea Odeh and Palestine. Protesters demanded that charges against Palestinian-American activist Rasmea Odeh be dropped and that the U.S.-backed Israeli occupation and pillaging of Gaza cease now. Protesters held signs reading “Free Rasmea! Hands off Palestine!” and “Justice for Rasmea, justice for Palestine.”
Tucson, AZ – “Que vivan los ninos! Vivan!” chanted the crowd of nearly 70 outside Tucson’s downtown public library, July 30. They convened, as one mother said, “To support the children from Guatemala, El Salvador and Honduras who are fleeing violence, gangs and poverty.” Passersby could not miss the signs naming the causes of migration that read: “U.S. supports coups,” “U.S. fuels civil wars,” “U.S. backs militarization” and “Free Trade ruins lives.”
Tucson, AZ – On July 11 more than 60 people protested Israel’s war of terror against the Palestinian people. Those gathered demanded justice and the return home to Tampa, Florida of Palestinian American teen-ager Tariq Khdeir, recently beaten by Israeli police until he blacked out.
Tucson, AZ – Tucson activists organized a presentation and discussion on the crisis in Ukraine, May 23. The teach-in was part of the nationwide emergency action campaign, initiated by the United National Antiwar Coalition, against U.S. intervention in Ukraine.
Tucson, AZ – 20 anti-war protesters confronted the arrival of Colombian Air Force and Special Forces troops at a U.S- led military exercise near Tucson, May 4. The anti-war activists chanted, “Stop the U.S.-funded war in Colombia!” and “50 years of war is enough!”
“Deport La Migra! Not the workers!” chanted hundreds of Tucsonans who took the fight against mass deportations and attacks on workers to some of those responsible for these attacks. The May Day march stopped at Wells Fargo, McDonald's, UPS and a University of Arizona future site for promoting technology to further border militarization. The chant “El pueblo unido jamas sera vencido!” echoed through the barrios of Tucson.
Tucson, AZ – El día internacional de los trabajadores se reconoce no solo como el día en que la clase trabajadora sale a las calles a defender los derechos que ha conquistado durante su larga historia de lucha, sino que también es el día en que la clase trabajadora internacional se manifiesta para continuar exigiendo sus reivindicaciones. Debido a las condiciones históricas y culturales especificas al Suroeste los Estados Unidos, aquí en Arizona existe una estrecha relación entre las luchas laborales y la lucha por los derechos de los inmigrantes. La clase trabajadora de Tucson está comprometida con el deber histórico de defender los derechos de los inmigrantes, ya que la gran mayoria de los inmigrantes también son parte de la clase trabajadora.
Tucson, AZ – On the evening of March 14, despite rainy weather, nearly 40 Tucson activists gathered to protest Senator John McCain’s support for terrorism and fascism around the world, particularly in the Ukraine and Venezuela.
Tucson, AZ – On the evening of Feb. 27, a group of activists gathered outside Tucson City Hall to protest U.S. interference in Venezuela and declare solidarity with the revolutionary Bolivarian government.
