Brooklyn, NY — Transit riders gathered at Jay Street – Metrotech station around a banner with an enlarged image of MTA Board Chair and CEO Janno Lieber. Organizers from the New York Alliance Against Racist and Political Repression (NYAARPR) invited passersby to step on the image and share negative experiences with the MTA and police in the transit system.

New York, NY – On October 18, hundreds of thousands of New Yorkers gathered in Times Square to protest the Trump administration. The “No Kings” protest took up dozens of city blocks on two streets, making it one of the largest protests in NYC history.

Brooklyn, NY – Dozens gathered on Tuesday, September 30 at the New York City Transit Authority to speak and give public comment at a monthly meeting of the MTA board. The event was organized by the New York Alliance Against Racist and Political Repression, as well as other members of the Fare Ain’t Fair Coalition, including the December 12th Movement.

New York, NY – On Sunday, September 21, around 50 people rallied near Prospect Park in Brooklyn to demand a stop to all fare increases and the expansion of the “fair fares” discounted fare program. The MTA board is scheduled to vote on a fare increase at their monthly board meeting on September 30.

Brooklyn, NY – On September 6, The New York Alliance Against Racist and Political Repression (NYAARPR) hosted a town hall in Crown Heights to discuss community experiences with the NYPD and ways to fight back against police terror on the subway system. The town hall was held at Another World community center, which emerged from mutual aid efforts started as the Crown Heights CARE Collective in 2022.

New York, NY – On Tuesday, June 24, two activists were summoned to the Kings and New York Criminal Court at 1 Centre Street after their arrest at a protest against the NYPD.

Daniel Koh from the New York Alliance Against Racist and Political Repression (NYAARPR) and climate justice activist John Mark Rozendaal were targeted for arrest during an action at the New York City Police Foundation Gala. Every year, the wealthiest New Yorkers use the gala to donate millions to the already bloated police department. This year was NYAARPR’s second annual protest.

New York, NY – On Thursday June 19, close to 50 New Yorkers assembled to honor the radical legacy of Juneteenth by protesting ICE presence in their city and state. The protest was organized by Equality for Flatbush, a Brooklyn-based organization which focuses on issues facing oppressed people in the Flatbush community.

New York, NY – On June 5, dozens of community members and activists gathered outside of the Intrepid Museum to protest the New York City Police Foundation annual gala. The gala raises millions of dollars for the already over-bloated NYPD budget and goes to creating police community outreach, opening and maintaining overseas NYPD offices, and buying innovative technology. Tickets range from $2500 to $250,000.

New York, NY – On Friday, February 7, protesters gathered at City Hall facing 1 Police Plaza to protest the new NYPD Quality of Life Division. The creation of this division comes on the heels of cop-Mayor Eric Adams installing officers on every overnight train.

The Quality of Life Division targets poor and working-class New Yorkers. Officers in the division will go after panhandlers, public urination, those sleeping on the train, street vending, and other forms of “broken window” policing. The primary issue with this division is that it doesn’t address the underlying issues that cause people to resort to these actions.

New York, NY – At 4 p.m. on January 20, New Yorkers braved the cold and the snow to gather on the steps of the Brooklyn War Memorial to protest Trump’s presidency and to resist the Trump agenda.

New York, NY – On a Saturday afternoon, November 9, a couple dozen people gathered to protest the increased presence of the NYPD in the NYC metro system, outside the Jay Street. Metro Tech subway stop in Brooklyn. The protest brought attention to NY Alliance Against Racist and Political Repression’s “Cops Off The Subway” campaign. The campaign demands that the NYPD, MTA PD, and National Guard leave the NYC transit system, end the new version of Stop and Frisk under mayor Eric Adams, and calls for funding communities and social services instead of the NYPD.

New York, NY – On Saturday, October 26, members of the New York Alliance Against Racist and Political Repression (NYAARPR) led a speakout in Restoration Plaza in the Bed-Stuy neighborhood of Brooklyn. Speakers highlighted NYAARPR’s campaign, Cops Off the Trains - an initiative aimed at reducing the over-policing of the subway and buses.

New York, NY – On Saturday, October 19, members of the New York Alliance Against Racist and Political Repression (NYAARPR) gathered in Brooklyn’s Brownsville neighborhood to speak out against increased policing in the city’s transit system. The action occurred just a month after the police shot three people at the nearby Sutter Avenue subway station, over a suspected fare evasion.

Brooklyn, NY – The NYU Students for a Democratic Society (NYU SDS) held a pro-Palestine rally, September 26, on the day their new dean, Juan De Pablo, was slated to visit the Tandon School of Engineering. Dozens of students walked by, taking photos and videos of the rally. Around 25 people joined SDS as they marched from the starting location of 6 MetroTech Center to Wunsch Hall,

Brooklyn, NY – On Saturday, September 7, the New York Alliance Against Racist and Political Repression (NYAARPR) and a dozen community members gathered for an honest discussion of the role of the NYPD on the New York City subway system.

The event, held at the Macon branch of the Brooklyn Public Library, marked the launch of NYAARPR’s Cops off the Subway campaign.

New York, NY – By the evening of November 3, five rallies and actions had been called throughout the city for November 4. Progressive forces began calling events that ranged from “Count All the Votes” to a non-partisan indictment of both men running for president of the United States.
