Students smack Donald Trump piñatas at University of MN
Minneapolis, MN – Students and community members gathered on the Northrop Mall at the University of Minnesota on an unseasonably warm day, Nov. 2, to take some swings at three homemade piñatas that bore a strong resemblance to Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump.
Donald Trump piñatas have become a hot item around the U.S. in response to the flamboyant right-wing billionaire’s provocative and racist statements against Mexican immigrants and his threatening to deport all 11 million undocumented immigrants in the country. He has also lashed out at Muslims, women and others.
At the piñata event, many students gathered to watch, laugh and cheer as three Donald Trump piñatas took a beating. The piñatas were sturdy, so it took a many people giving it their best shot to break them open, releasing the candy from inside.
The event to “Beat Trump” was organized by the Minnesota Immigrant Rights Action Committee (MIRAC), an immigrant rights organization calling attention to the dangers posed by Donald Trump’s right-wing anti-immigrant politics.
