Minneapolis, MN – “All 1500 people marching for immigrant rights here, May 1, heard about the case of Carlos Montes,” stated Jess Sundin of the Minnesota Committee to Stop FBI Repression.

The Minnesota Committee to Stop FBI Repression organized a contingent in the May 1 protest. More than 30 people carried signs and banners demanding the charges against Montes be dropped. They distributed a flyer urging people to call Los Angles Districts Attorney Steve Cooley to let him know that the prosecution of Montes should be stopped. Many wore t-shirts supporting Montes.

Thistle Parker-Hartog, of the Minnesota Committee to Stop FBI Repression, told the crowd, “The Committee to Stop FBI Repression stands in solidarity with our immigrant sisters and brothers. One of our number, Carlos Montes, has been a leader in the Chicano movement for decades. And in retribution for his dedication to fighting for immigrant rights, he was raided and arrested on false charges at his home in L.A. one year ago. His trial starts May 15, and it is urgent that each one of us contact the prosecutor to demand he drop the charges against Carlos.”

With the trial scheduled for May 15, efforts are underway across the U.S. to put the heat on L.A. prosecutors to drop the charges.
