Chicago, IL – The 23rd annual People’s Thanksgiving, a celebration of the past year of struggle in Chicago, was held here Nov. 22. While honoring important organizations in the movement, the gathering of over 100 people also was a major fundraiser for the beloved Palestinian activist, Rasmea Odeh. Over $7500 was raised for her defense fund.

Detroit, MI – The National Lawyers Guild (NLG) has filed a motion to be admitted as amicus curiae in the case of Rasmea Odeh, to support the request by Rasmea Odeh’s attorneys that the court reconsider its decision to deny her bond pending sentencing on March 12, 2015.

Protestors standing with Rasmea

New York, NY – Protesters converged on Federal Plaza here, Nov. 15 to demand justice for Palestinian American leader Rasmea Odeh. The protest was called by Students for Justice in Palestine groups from across the city. It was backed by Al-Awda NY: the Palestine Right to Return Coalition, American Muslims for Palestine, BAYAN USA, Committee to Stop FBI Repression, International Action Center, U.S. Palestinian Community Network, Revolutionary Student Coordinating Committee and others.

Arizona protest demands freedom for Rasmea Odeh.

Tucson, AZ – Over a dozen activists rallied in solidarity with Rasmea Odeh outside the Federal Courthouse in front of busy Tucson traffic on Nov. 18. Amid the presence of Border Patrol, sheriffs and federal police, the group stood firm and chanted, “Free Rasmea now!” Odeh is a 67-year-old Palestinian American community organizer from Chicago who is now in Saint Clair County jail in Michigan.

Detroit, MI – Michael E. Deutsch, one of the attorneys on the defense team of prominent Palestinian American leader Rasmea Odeh, filed a motion to Federal Court here, Nov. 14, asking Judge Gershwin Drain to reconsider his decision to revoke her bond.

Salt Lake City protest demands freedom for Rasmea Odeh

Salt Lake City, UT – Activists rallied in front of the Wallace F. Bennett Federal Building on Nov. 16, as part of a national week of action in support of Palestinian American leader Rasmea Odeh. Participants were urged to write letters of support to Rasmea Odeh, now in Saint Clair County Jail, Port Huron, Michigan. Supporters are also making donations to her defense fund. Information can be found at stopfbi.net.

Odeh is a 67-year-old Palestinian woman activist from Chicago who is now being held in a Detroit jail. Minneapolis protest demands freedom for Rasmea Odeh

Minneapolis, MN – About 40 people rallied here in the midst of a major snowstorm Nov. 10 to demand the immediate release of Palestinian American leader Rasmea Odeh. Odeh was found guilty of a trumped-up immigration charge in Detroit that same day and Federal Judge Gershwin Drain revoked her bail. She will be jailed until her sentencing on March 15, 2015.

Rasmea Odeh after guilty verdict Nov. 10

Detroit, MI – The jury in the case of Rasmea Odeh returned a guilty verdict after less than two hours of deliberation this morning, Nov. 10. They accepted the charge against her for “unlawful procurement of citizenship.” In her application for citizenship a decade ago, she failed to disclose that she was a political prisoner in Israel 45 years ago, convicted after soldiers raped and tortured her into a confession.

Detroit, MI – Prosecutor Jonathan Tukel of the U.S. Attorney’s Office is asking that the bond for Palestinian American leader Rasmea Odeh be revoked. This comes on the heels of an unjust guilty verdict in her case. Judge Drain will decide the issue in a hearing at 2:00 p.m. today, Nov. 10.

Solidarity with Rasmea Odeh in Salt Lake City, Utah

Salt Lake City, UT – Fifteen anti-war activists gathered in front of the William F Bennet Federal Building on Nov. 4 to stand in solidarity with Rasmea Odeh. Rasmea Odeh is an Arab American and women's rights activist being targeted by the FBI for her political activism. The U.S. government is attempting to weaken the Palestinian solidarity and anti-war movements. People protested across the country on the opening day of Rasmea Odeh’s trial in Detroit, including in Salt Lake City.
