Gainesville, FL – On March 26, 60 students and community members gathered in Little Hall to hear three nationally known figures speak out against political repression. A packed house greeted Noor Elashi, John Cline, and Mick Kelly for the final date of their tour. Students for Justice in Palestine (SJP) and Students for a Democratic Society (SDS) organized the event to learn about the wave of U.S. government repression against Muslims, Arab-Americans and anti-war activists.

Tallahassee, FL – More than 30 student activists from Florida State University (FSU) packed into a room in the Oglesby Student Union to hear Noor Elashi and other organizers speak about government repression, March 25. Holy Land 5 attorney John Cline joined Elashi on the panel, along with Mick Kelly, who was one of the 23 anti-war activists raided by the FBI in September, 2010.

Jonas is currently on case of anti-war and international solidarity activists

“Hands off our families, hands off our friends! Barry Jonas, this must end!” This chant rang out in front of DePaul’s College of Law in Chicago, where over 30 protesters gathered to denounce Assistant U.S. Attorney Barry Jonas’ speaking at an event titled, “Fighting Terrorism in the Courtroom,” about government targeting of charity organizations that send humanitarian aid to Palestinians, especially the Holy Land Foundation (HLF). The Students for Justice in Palestine (SJP) chapter at DePaul raised the call, “Hey DePaul, let’s be clear – racists are not welcome here!” Other members of SJP organized a silent protest outside the door of the event, giving visual representation to how Palestinians are often silenced and reminding attendees of the killing of Palestinians at the hands of the Israeli military.

Minneapolis, MN - Over fifty protesters demonstrated on Monday, May 16, at the Hennepin County Government Center in Minneapolis, to commemorate the tragedy of Al-Nakba – Arabic for ‘the catastrophe.’ The demonstration was organized by the Anti-War Committee to mark the destruction of 415 Palestinian villages and the creation of almost 1 million Palestinian refugees between 1947 and 1950.

Rally in Chicago against Siege in Gaza

Tens of thousands of people took to the streets in the United States and around the world, Jan. 25-26, to demand an immediate end to the Israeli siege of Gaza. Protesters gathered outside Israeli embassies and consulates, as well as at U.S. federal buildings, making it clear that the U.S. must stop aiding and abetting Israeli war crimes.

Chicago, IL - Almost 30 Palestinian, Black and Latino youth marched into a packed banquet hall to open the Saturday night event of the Popular Conference for Palestinians in the U.S. The historic weekend conference on Aug. 8-10 in Chicago had over 1000 organizers, activists and community members attend from across the country. Gaza War Protest in Chicago, IL

Chicago, IL - 500 people gathered here Dec. 28 for an emergency rally and press conference to condemn the Israeli attacks in the Gaza. The crowd formed a circle around the speakers in front of the Water Tower at noon. The real anger was felt when most of the group moved to the corner to chant at the lone Zionist with an Israeli flag across the street. The militant chanting ranged from, “Free, free Palestine!” to “ End the occupation now!”

Minneapolis, MN - 200 Palestinian Americans, anti-zionist Jews and peace activists protested outside of Minnesota Senator Amy Klobuchar’s office, Dec. 30, to demand an end to U.S. support for Israel’s attacks on Gaza. Gaza War Protest in Minneapolis, MN

Minneapolis, MN - Around 400 protesters gathered at the Islamic Cultural Community Center here, Jan. 2 to protest against the Israeli attack on Gaza. Most of the protesters were Muslim and Arab. The crowd was passionate and demanded an end to U.S. aid to Israel and an end to the bombing of Gaza. The protesters marched throughout the neighborhood that is home to many Arab people. The marchers were greeted by honks and many people joined the march as it went by.

Gaza War Protest in Durham, NC

Durham, NC - Over 120 protesters representing dozens of organizations and many nationalities rallied here, Jan. 3, to support the people of Gaza and denounce the U.S.-supported Israeli attacks on Palestinians. Protesters chanted, “We want justice for all Gaza!” and “Free Palestine.” Several local anti-war leaders spoke at the rally and emphasized the importance of linking the struggle against the occupation in Iraq with the struggle for liberation and peace in Palestine.

January Gaza War Protest in Cincinnati

Cincinnati, OH - 300 people protested the Israeli military invasion of Gaza on Saturday, Jan. 3. The protest sent a message that U.S. support for Israel must end. Gathering at Fountain Square in downtown Cincinnati, the mostly Palestinian and Arab-American protesters were joined by dozens of social justice and solidarity activists from local communities, including Christian and Muslim peace activists. The Palestinian organizers circulated amongst white and African-American activists, thanking them for their support.
