Dallas, TX – On August 14, people gathered for a lively talk by Dr. Michael Philips exploring the protests of the 1984 Republican National Convention in Dallas. The event was put on by the Dallas Against the Trump Agenda Coalition in the lead-up to the protests of the midterm Republican National Convention descending on Dallas on September 9 and 10 of this year.

Blake Van Wicken, a local Teamster and member of the immigrant rights group El Moviemiento, commented, “It was great to come together and learn about Dallas’ strong but often forgotten history of protest, and to connect that history to our moment as a new generation of Dallas organizers prepares to march on the Republican convention and oppose the Trump agenda.”

Fight Back News Service is circulating the following statement from the Dallas Against the Trump Agenda (DATA) Coalition.

Dallas, TX – When Donald Trump and the Republican Party bring their national midterm convention to Dallas on September 9 and 10, they will be looking to use our city as a stage to promote their agenda. But Dallas will not simply be a backdrop for Trump and the Republican Party.

Dallas workers and communities are organizing to fight back

The Dallas Against the Trump Agenda (D.A.T.A.) Coalition has formed to unite organizations, community activists, workers and residents across Dallas in opposition to the Trump agenda and to build a lasting center of struggle against the attacks facing working and oppressed people. The Republican Party’s decision to hold its midterm national convention in Dallas is a deliberate attempt to put Trump and his political program at the center of the 2026 elections. The convention will take place at the American Airlines Center on September 9–10.

D.A.T.A. intends to make sure that the voices heard in Dallas that week are not just those of politicians, billionaires and Republican Party officials.

Dallas will fight back

On September 10, at 1pm, D.A.T.A. will take to the streets to protest the Republican convention and make clear that the Trump agenda does not represent the interests of working people in Dallas. The coalition is bringing together people who are fighting against deportations and ICE raids, attacks on workers and unions, racism and national oppression, attacks on immigrants, cuts to public services, attacks on education, police violence, militarism and war, and the broader assault on democratic and civil rights.

Join the protest on September 10 at 1pm outside the American Airlines Center [2500 Victory Ave, Dallas TX 75219]
