Social Forum brings together people's struggles
U.S. Social Forum – San Jose June 24-28
San Jose , CA – The U.S. Social Forum begins today, June 24, here in San Jose with a concurrent site in Philadelphia. The event is bringing together many different sections of the people’s movement under the slogan “Another World is Possible, Another System is Necessary.”
Steff Yorek, a member of Freedom Road Socialist Organization states, “I am excited to be traveling to San Jose for the U.S. Social Forum to participate in a Peoples Movement Assembly on Political Repression with the Committee to Stop FBI Repression, Carlos Montes, Lara Kiswani and Scott Braley on how we come together to oppose and resist political attacks on our movement.”
The assembly, called “From East L.A. to Palestine, Solidarity is Not a Crime,” is sponsored by Freedom Road Socialist Organization and starts 6:00 p.m. on June 26 in Engineering 189, at San Jose State University.
Yorek is one of the anti-war and international solidarity activists raided by the FBI in late 2010. She refused to testify before a grand jury investigating material support for terrorism.
Immigrant rights activist Masao Suzuki will also be attending the Social Forum and he encourages people to attend the workshop called “Legalization for All: Perspectives on the Immigrant Rights Movement.”
Sponsored by the Legalization for All Network, that workshop will happen on June 27 at 1:00 p.m., at First Unitarian Church of San Jose, 160 North 3rd Street.
