Pewaukee protest slams Governor Walker’s attempt at union busting
Pewaukee, WI – 1500 demonstrators lined the street outside of Country Springs Hotel, March 7 to protest against Governor Scott Walker’s appearance with right-wing radio talk show host Charlie Sykes. Firefighters, teachers, healthcare workers, sheet metal workers and students chanted “Recall Walker!” and “Union rights are under attack! What do we do? Stand up, fight back!” as passing cars honked to the rhythm of “Kill-the-bill! Kill the bill!”
Scott Walker thought he could expect to find support for his union-busting agenda in Pewaukee, where he celebrated his election victory in November 2010, but he was wrong. Wherever Walker goes, he is met with fierce opposition.
Waukesha Students for Democratic Society member and Pewaukee High School student Tony Martinez asked, “Why should my teachers have to suffer for a budget crisis that was created by the rich?” He added, “If they really wanted to fix the budget, they would go where the money is and tax the rich!”
