New Yorkers protest pro-Israel parade
New York, NY – Over 70 Palestinians and solidarity activists protested the Celebrate Israel Parade on June 3 in New York. The parade commemorated the 70th anniversary of Al Nakba or “the catastrophe,” when the ethnic cleansing of Palestinians led to the founding of Israel.
Pro-Palestine protesters chanted and held coffins up in the air. There were large signs with photos of the over 100 killed a few weeks ago during the Great March of Return. Protesters jeered Senator Chuck Schumer, Governor Andrew Cuomo, and Mayor Bill de Blasio for participating. Chants included “Little kids, there’s still time, go home and Google ‘Palestine’” and “How do you spell murderer? I-D-F!”
After the rally, the protesters marched to Columbus Circle with the coffins held high and a large Palestinian flag waving in the wind, handing out flyers to educate people about Palestine.
