Minneapolis, MN – 100 people rallied here, Nov. 24, despite frigid temperatures, to stand in solidarity with the people of Gaza. “While it is good that there is a cease fire in Gaza, it is important to be here today because we need to protest the Israeli occupation itself because until Palestine is free there will be more offensives like Operation Pillar. As the U.S. anti-war movement we need to keep demanding an end to U.S. military aid because U.S. money is driving and financing the Israeli occupation,” said the Anti-War Committee’s Meredith Aby in her speech to the crowd.

The crowd enthusiastically chanted “Free free Palestine! Long live Palestine!” as they marched across the Hennepin/Lyndale Avenue walking bridge, the largest intersection in Minneapolis. Many passersby honked when seeing the large Palestine flags.

“I am angered by the role the U.S. and Secretary of State Clinton are playing in claiming that they are negotiating for 'peace.' The U.S. is arming Israel to the teeth and the U.S. role in negotiations has repeatedly been to throw the Right to Return for Palestinians under the bus. What does the U.S. know about peace? The U.S. is waging war and threatening war across the globe,” finished Aby.

The emcees ended by reminding people of an upcoming event the case of the Holy Land 5 – the five members of the Holy Land Foundation jailed for up to 65 years for sending charity to Palestine. The Nov. 29 event, which includes a video and speakers, will start at 6:00 p.m., at 4200 Cedar Avenue in Minneapolis.
