Minneapolis, MN – The family and community members will march in the streets of downtown Minneapolis to demand justice for Thurman Blevins, Jr., who was executed by Minneapolis police almost two weeks ago. The first Peace Walk filled the streets of North Minneapolis; this time, marchers will bring their demands downtown, starting at City Hall, 350 S 5th Street, 4:30 p.m., July 6.

On June 23, Minneapolis officers Ryan Kelly and Justin Schmidt shot Thurman “June” Blevins in the back. Thurman “June Bug” Blevins was spending the weekend with loved ones including one of his children when his life was cut short. No witnesses saw a gun as the police chased him before shooting him in an alley, and the cops’ story about what happened that night keeps changing. This shooting is part of policing in this country that continues to take the lives of Black men.

“Justice means prosecuting the police who did this,” says a statement from event organizers.

The event has the backing of Black Lives Matter Minnesota, Communities United Against Police Brutality, Justice 4 Marcus Golden, Justice 4 Cordale Handy, New North, and the Twin Cities Coalition for Justice 4 Jamar.
