Atlanta, GA – Georgians will mark the fourth anniversary of the American invasion of Iraq by demanding, “Not one more death, not one more dollar.” Activities in various parts of the state will include delivery of petitions to congresspersons, a ‘constituent teach-in’ for Georgia’s U.S. senators and numerous street demonstrations, faith vigils and campus actions.

“The deepening quagmire in Iraq is sparking broader opposition at home,” said Gloria Tatum of the Georgia Peace & Justice Coalition. “Antiwar activities are spreading to the suburbs and smaller towns such as Snellville, Norcross, Newnan, Douglasville, Stone Mountain, Carrollton and McDonough, and into virtually every congressional district in the state.”

Ongoing actions in larger cities are also finding increased support. “Every week we get more responses to our “Honk for peace” signs,” said Lindsay Holliday of Macon Peace. “The increasingly positive response is immensely encouraging as we vigil week after week,” added Nancy MacNair, a peace organizer in Athens.

Many Georgians will take their protest to Washington. Two buses, organized by International Action Center/Atlanta, will transport Georgians to a March on the Pentagon on Saturday, March 17.
