Dallas protesters say ‘Hands off Venezuela’
Dallas, TX – On February 22, protesters gathered at Dealey Plaza to demand an end to U.S. interference in Venezuela. The protest was called by the Dallas Peace and Justice Center and Veterans for Peace Chapter 106.
Protesters held signs that read “Hands off Venezuela” and “No more war for oil.” One banner read “Support the Bolivarian Revolution.” Local activist Hadi Jawad led chants such as “Trump, Bolton, Abrams, too, we don't want your stinking coup.”
One speaker suggested Elliott Abrams, the U.S. special envoy to Venezuela, should be imprisoned for his role in the Guatemalan genocide, stating, “During the course of this genocide, perhaps as many as 200,000 Mayans were slaughtered by the Guatemalan army, acting on orders from the United States. During the latter part of the genocide, in the late 1980s, Elliott Abrams served as undersecretary of state for Latin America. He helped to lead the genocide.”
