Striking Seattle Art Museum workers rally with supporters.  | Staff/Fight Back! News

Seattle, WA – Seattle Art Museum security guards, also known as Visitor Service Officers (VSOs) went on strike on November 29, and, along with community supporters, held a large picket and rally on Thursday, December 5. Seattle Art Museum (SAM) workers have been fighting for a contract for more than two years, through the independent SAM VSO union. The museum has refused to meet workers’ needs on retirement, wages and healthcare, and has not even accepted closed shop language, which would protect the union.

Seattle protest against police crimes.

Seattle WA – Protesters, angry about recent police killings, marched to the East Precinct police station in Seattle on the evening of January 27. A group about 100 people marched from the site where Jaahnavi Kandula was run over by a cop on January 23. Chants of “No justice! No peace! No racist police!” rang out as the group took to the streets demanding an end to police violence.

Seattle, WA – On December 8, workers at Seattle sandwich chain Homegrown won their National Labor Relations Board election to join UNITE HERE Local 8, a food service and hospitality union. With a vote count of 59-11 for their union, workers clearly showed they wanted a seat at the bargaining table. This election, representing 130 employees at ten different cafes, came after a separate vote by distribution drivers at Homegrown-owned company Catapult NW, who also voted to join the union.
