Tampa, FL – Students for a Democratic Society (SDS) at the University of South Florida (USF) held a lecture and then a protest as part of Black History Month.

Chicago, IL – Several members of the Anti-War Committee (AWC) of Chicago purchased shares in the Boeing Company in order to bring a resolution before the stockholders. According to Richard Berg, who submitted the resolution, “The Boeing board refused to submit our resolution to the stockholders, saying it interfered with the regular business of the company.”

Chicago, IL – This morning, Feb. 25, a ruling from the Sixth Circuit Court of Appeals represents a partial victory in the case of Rasmea Odeh, the legendary Palestinian American icon who was convicted of a politically motivated immigration charge in 2014, and sentenced to 18 months in prison and deportation last year.

Minneapolis, MN – As Republican presidential candidate Marco Rubio made a campaign appearance at the Hyatt hotel in downtown Minneapolis on Feb. 23, immigrant rights activists were there to protest his recent anti-immigrant statements. The protest was organized by the Minnesota Immigrant Rights Action Committee (MIRAC).

Washington D.C. – On the second anniversary of the neo-Nazi-led turmoil that led to the downfall of Ukraine’s elected government, the U.S. State Department hailed those 2014 events as a “revolution of dignity.”Deputy Department spokesperson Mark C. Toner issued a statement Feb. 20 calling the reactionary takeover a “European choice.”

Los Angeles, CA – Family, friends and supporters of Edwin Rodriguez united to protest his murder by Sheriff’s Deputies of East Los Angeles, Feb. 20. Rodriguez was pulled over by East Los Angeles (ELA) Sheriffs, beaten and shot to death on Feb. 14th. He was shot over ten times. The sheriffs claimed that Rodriguez was in a stolen car. However, the car was not stolen; it belonged to the driver’s mother. Antonio Rodriguez, the family's attorney said, “There was no reason to pull them over.”

San José, CA – On Feb. 14, nearly 300 people came to San José State University’s Morris Dailey Auditorium for the 36th Annual Day of Remembrance. This event commemorates the anniversary of Executive Order 9066 issued by President Franklin D. Roosevelt on Feb. 19, 1942 that led to the incarceration of about 120,000 Japanese Americans in concentration camps during World War II.

Madison, WI – More than 15,000 Mexicanos, Chicanos and Latinos, including students, workers, businesses owners and professionals joined a rally at the Wisconsin State Capitol in Madison, occupying the rotunda. The huge masses of protesters came out in support of “El dia sin Latinos” or “A day without Latinos” to protest two anti-immigrant bills, AB 450 and SB 533. Some schools and businesses were half empty or closed as students walked out, and farms, factories and work places across Wisconsin were noticeably short-handed.

Los Angeles, CA – The Los Angeles Sheriff’s Department murdered another young man in East Los Angeles (ELA), Feb. 14. The LA Sheriff’s version is full of contradictions and misinformation.

Saint Paul, MN – Teachers and staff from the Saint Paul Federation of Teachers organized ‘walk-in’ events at more than 50 public schools in the early morning before school started on Feb. 17. Each walk-in included an informational picket and short rally. Teachers wearing red, the union’s color, were joined by supportive students and parents in a show of collective strength by walking into school together for the day.

Minneapolis, MN – More than 40 activists in the people’s struggle came together here, Feb. 12, for a Fight Back! fundraising event that netted over $1400. Local trade union, immigrant rights, anti-police crimes, student and anti-war leaders gave toasts praising the newspaper.

Imperialist-backed aggression raises the threat of more war, destruction

Boyle Heights, CA – A great show of unity and solidarity against police abuse took place in Boyle Heights, Feb. 12, with a spirited protest of over 50 people. The Mendez family, friends, neighbors, supporters, activists and Centro CSO members protested at LAPD Hollenbeck police station over the Feb. 6 killing of Jose Mendez, a Boyle Heights teen. Protesters demanded justice for Jose Mendez and an end to police killings of our Chicano youth.

Saint Paul, MN – 40 protesters demanded an end to deportations and an end to Wall Street’s wars outside a big-money Democratic Party fundraiser that featured presidential candidates Hillary Clinton and Bernie Sanders, Feb. 12.

Arlington, TX – The Progressive Student Union at the University of Texas, Arlington (UTA) held a Dump Trump Piñata Bash, Feb. 9, to protest the presidential candidate's racism and xenophobia. Around 30 students gathered around a piñata made to look like Donald Trump. Some took pictures and others took videos, while still others took turns striking the piñata. Candy flew on the grass with each swing.

Los Angeles, CA – On Feb. 6, a 16-year-old Chicano teen, Jose Mendez, was shot and killed by Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) by cops from Hollenbeck Division in the Boyle Heights community, located in the East Los Angeles area.

Jacksonville, FL – Members of the Jacksonville Progressive Coalition and other community organizations are mobilizing for protests against Florida State Attorney Angela Corey later in February. Corey is responsible for incarcerating more Black youth than any other state attorney in Florida and for failing to serve justice in several high-profile cases. Corey's record includes failing to convict George Zimmerman in the murder of Trayvon Martin, and locking up Marissa Alexander for defending herself against her violent estranged husband. In 2015, Corey also failed to deliver justice in the case of D'angelo Stallworth, a UPS employee murdered by the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office (JSO).
