Los Angeles, CA – Students from all over the state of California gathered at the University of California regents meeting on UCLA campus Nov.19. They were there to protest proposed fee hikes.

On second day of protests, over 1000 students blockade building entrances and form a human chain around the building where the UC regents were meeting.

Los Angeles, CA – Shortly after midnight on Nov. 19, dozens of students barricaded themselves inside UCLA's Campbell Hall in protest of a planned 32% fee hike that will be enacted later today. Banners in front of the main entrance have renamed the building “Carter-Huggins,” after Bunchy Carter and John Huggins, two Black Panther leaders who were murdered there in 1969.

Los Angeles, CA – The fall quarter started off with a bang across the University of California system, Sept. 24 as thousands of workers, faculty, undergrads and graduate students walked out of work and class to protest severe budget cuts, layoffs, furloughs and tuition hikes.

Bogotá, Colombia – En julio de este año, un grupo de activistas anti-guerra viajó a Colombia en una delegación de derechos humanos organizada por la Red de Acción de Colombia. La delegación se reunió con sindicatos, asociaciones de granjeros y organizaciones estudiantiles. FENSUAGRO, la Federación Nacional Sindical Unitaria Agropecuaria de Colombia, hospedó a los activistas estadounidenses. La delegación visitó regiones rurales y fue testigo de las condiciones de vida de los campesinos colombianos.

Bogotá, Colombia – U.S. anti-war activists traveled to Colombia in July on a human rights delegation organized by the Colombia Action Network. The delegation met with trade unions, peasant farmer associations and student organizations. FENSUAGRO (Federación Nacional Sindical Unitaria Agropecuaria, or the National Federation of Agricultural Farming Unions), Colombia’s national federation of peasants, hosted the U.S. activists. The delegation visited rural regions and documented the living conditions of Colombian peasants.

Los Ángeles, CA – Gritando, “¿Qué queremos? ¡Legalización! ¿Cuándo? ¡Ahora!” un grupo de más de 200 estudiantes de la Universidad de California – Los Angeles (UCLA) se juntó con miembros de la comunidad afuera de una sala universitaria en donde Carl Braun, director ejecutivo del Cuerpo de Defensa Civil de los California Minutemen, tenía planeado hablar el 6 de febrero.

Los Angeles, CA – Chanting, “Regents, regents, can’t you see? You’re creating poverty!” 16 student activists from UCLA Students for a Democratic Society, the UCLA Student Worker Front and other University of California campuses temporarily brought a meeting of the University of California Regents to a halt May 14 to protest a hike in student fees. The students locked arms and continued chanting until they were physically removed by UC police officers. All were charged with misdemeanor counts of failing to disperse.

Asheville, NC - The chant, “U.S. out of Iraq! Let them have their country back!” echoed off the buildings of downtown Asheville as a spirited group of over 100 students, young people, workers and veterans marched through the city to say no to Bush’s war. The protesters chose to mark the three-year anniversary of the invasion by joining millions of others around the world to demand the immediate withdrawal of U.S. troops from Iraq.

Chapel Hill, NC – Chants of, “Out of Iraq, out of our schools!” rose above the noise of afternoon traffic as protesters marched to Chapel Hill’s new Army Career Center on Wednesday, Nov. 15. Led by UNC-Chapel Hill’s chapter of Students for a Democratic Society, the group of about 50 marchers was joined by another several dozen protesters at the recruiting station. Demonstrators held a rally and a press conference condemning the war against Iraq and the predatory tactics of military recruiters.
