UPS fails the test as negotiations with IBT halt
Milwaukee, WI – After working through the holiday and into the early morning hours of July 5, the International Brotherhood of Teamsters negotiating team was met with yet another disappointing offer by representatives from United Parcel Service, which did not meet the needs of members.
Upon leaving the table, the company has begun to blame the union for the stoppage despite having months to figure out their offer. Teamsters General President Sean O’Brien made it clear what the demands of the Teamsters are at a press conference held on July 1. O’Brien stated that the company had 84 hours to come up with an offer that would address the needs of the 340,000 Teamsters.
UPS made over $13.9 billion in 2022. Teamsters at UPS worked through the COVID pandemic and the massive surge in online orders in the aftermath.
“This day and age, when we have companies as profitable [as UPS], they need to reward their people, and we are not gonna stop ‘til we get the contract we deserve for our 340,000 members,” O’Brien said.
There are now 26 days left until the contract expires, and no new negotiations have been scheduled. Practice pickets remain scheduled for Teamsters all across the country and critical community support continues to mount.
