Minneapolis demands “Justice for Carlos Montes”
Minneapolis, MN – Members of the Minnesota Committee to Stop FBI Repression bannered and distributed leaflets here, April 25 in support of veteran Chicano activist Carlos Montes, the day before his Los Angeles court appearance.
The event, one of several this week to build support for Montes, was held at a busy intersection in a South Minneapolis Latino neighborhood during rush hour. The banner read, “Justice for Carlos Montes. Drop the Charges Now.” The leaflets, in Spanish and English, described his long time anti-war and immigrant rights activism and his participation in the march on the RNC in Saint Paul in 2008. Montes was listed on the search warrant in the FBI raid in 2010 on the Anti-war Committee, the organizing center for the RNC protest. The leaflet urged people to call President Obama and Attorney General Eric Holder and tell them to drop the charges against Montes.
Carlos Montes is one of the 24 anti-war and international solidarity activists who are facing FBI organized repression.
Support from motorists and pedestrians was enthusiastic. Linden Gawboy, an organizer of the event said, “Carlos is the target of government repression and FBI dirty tricks for his political beliefs and organizing. Fighting for justice is not a crime.”
