May Day rally and march set for LA
Los Angeles, CA – Boyle Heights families, workers and students will march on May 1, International Worker’s Day, to protest Trump’s anti-immigrant attacks and demand no wall on the Mexico border and no deportations. The May Day rally and march will start at 4:30 at the corner of Chavez and Mathews streets; and end at Mariachi Plaza for a rally.
According to a statement from march organizers, “The 5th annual May Day in Boyle Heights unites poor working-class families, students, teachers and workers to demand ‘Legalization for All,’ respect and equality for Mexican-Americans and Latinos.”
The march will include a short rally at the corners of Chicago and First Street at the LAPD Hollenbeck Station to denounce the killings of eight young men, like Jose Mendez killed February 5, 2016 and 14-year-old Jesse Romero, killed August 9, 2016, both child immigrants from Mexico raised in Boyle Heights. Several families who have lost sons to LAPD Hollenbeck killings will march and speak in front of LAPD Hollenbeck station to demand stop killings of Black and Brown young men.
Immigrant mothers will join and march and speak at the rally to call for unity against the Trump attacks. They will be joined by high school students from Roosevelt and Garfield High Schools.
The May Day march and rally in Boyle Heights is endorsed by Eastside Padres Contra Privatizacion, Black Lives Matter-LA, UTLA-Breed St. School teachers, UTLA-Eastman Avenue School teachers, MEChA de Garfield HS & Roosevelt HS, LA Catholic Worker Center, Take on Hate, UTLA-Human Rights Committee, Boyle Heights Neighborhood Council (2018), 50th Chicano Moratorium, Freedom Road Socialist Organization, Legalization for All Network, and Fight Back!
