County Officials Told: Homelessness Is A Crisis
Minneapolis, MN – On June 29, members of the Welfare Rights Committee (WRC) rallied in front of the Hennepin County Government Center to demand an end to the policy of sanctioning homeless mothers.
A statement from the WRC noted, “By law, while we are in a personal or family crisis we do not have to do job search/work requirements. However the word from county welfare workers and supervisors is 'Homeless is not a crisis.'”
Later, WRC members confronted Deborah Huskins, County Director of Economic Assistance. Huskins promised to respond to Committee demands within two weeks.
