FRSO Minneapolis May Day celebration
Minneapolis, MN – Trade unionists, students, community and anti-war activists filled the hall at Walker Church, April 29, to celebrate International Workers Day. The event, titled, “Celebrate May Day: Standing Up In the Face of Repression,” was organized by Freedom Road Socialist Organization.
Jess Sundin of Freedom Road Socialist Organization welcomed people to the event stating, “This is a great holiday, a working class holiday, celebrated around the world with marches, protests, meetings and parties. I think every May Day is a cause for celebration and this year the struggles of working and oppressed peoples have made great strides. Also this year, our struggles have been met with repression and war. I am honored to be here today, to speak alongside the many great people who have been leading the most crucial fights we have faced this year.”
Anh Pham and Sarah Martin of the Minnesota Committee to Stop FBI Repression talked about the need to push back against the FBI and Grand Jury attacks that are being directed at anti-war and international solidarity activists.
Jennie Eisert told the crowd “We in the Anti-War Committee know the importance of International Workers Day and to be in solidarity with the workers of the world.”
Eisert continued, “I am proud to be here as a Colombian in support of my friends, the workers of the world, and to say that I, as a Colombian, wholeheartedly support the Freedom Road Socialist Organization who put this event on.”
