Dayton FRSO holds successful May Day events
Dayton, OH – On April 29, approximately 15 activists gathered in Dayton’s courthouse square to celebrate International Workers Day. The event was organized by the Freedom Road Socialist organization under the banner of “celebrating the continued struggle for the liberation of the international working class.”
Event speakers highlighted various areas of struggle in which FRSO is currently engaged. They spoke to the gains recently made in Chicago with the push for community control of the police, the growing solidarity movement around the Tampa 5, and a summation of the recent border delegation andthe need for legalization for all.
The Saturday event was concluded with a solidarity statement in support of Venezuelan diplomat, Alex Saab, who is currently illegally detained by the U.S. government. Chants of “Free Alex Saab” echoed off buildings and could be heard from down the street.
To conclude May Day weekend, FRSO Dayton held a Sunday teach-in to explain the history of May Day, how it is celebrated today, and where it must go in the future. Event organizers explained to attendees the importance of “workers day” internationally, as well as its recent resurgence in the struggle for immigrant rights.
