Teachers, students rally in DC to Save Our Schools
Washington, DC – More than 10,000 teachers and students assembled here, July 30, for the Save Our Schools Conference and March. The event was met with national media attention.
Students for a Democratic Society (SDS) held several workshops at the conference, discussing the nature of organizing within high schools and universities, as well as attacks on activists around the country by the FBI and Grand Jury subpoenas.
Huge amounts of public teachers showed up from around the country, with a large contingent coming from Wisconsin. Kas Schwerdtfeger, of Milwaukee, Wisconsin SDS, spoke to the rally on behalf of the massive walkouts and occupations seen at Universities in Wisconsin and around the country in defense of public education.
Actor Matt Damon gave a rousing speech and interviews in support of educators across the country and had a large impact on those gathered.
