Minneapolis becomes the largest U.S. city to pass a policy allowing Muslim Adhan

Minneapolis, MN – As part of their daily routine, religious Muslims pray five times a day. Since prayer times revolve around the lunar cycle, they change throughout the year. In many places around the world, a call to prayer is broadcast from mosques to announce those five Adhan prayer times so people who are Muslim know it’s time to pray.

Minnesotans stand up for abortion rights.

Minneapolis, MN – On Saturday, April 15, 30 protesters gathered to oppose a recent Texas court ruling that threatens to revoke FDA approval for mifepristone, a drug used in more than half of U.S. abortions. The protest was organized by the Minnesota Abortion Action Committee (MNAAC) in response to the call put out by Women’s March for a National Day of Action defending medical abortion.

Twin Cities protest demand funding for human needs, not wars on Tax Day.

Minneapolis, MN – On April 15, 70 protesters gathered in the cold spring rain to protest the U.S. federal government’s use of their tax dollars to fund war instead of programs that would benefit people like education, environmental protection and healthcare. The protest was initiated by the MN Peace Action Coalition.

Rally in support of Planned Parenthood workers.

Minneapolis, MN – Union members at Planned Parenthood rallied on Tuesday evening, April 11, along with community supporters. The central demands of the action were that Planned Parenthood immediately reinstate a member of the bargaining committee who they fired recently, and to stop engaging in union-busting activity.

St. Paul, MN – 100 marchers rallied at the State Capitol building and then marched, despite high winds, rain and sleet, through Saint Paul on March 31 to draw attention to the importance of defending trans people from the increasing attacks at the national level.

UFCW members.

Minneapolis, MN – Around 3000 Workers at 33 Cub Foods grocery stores in Minneapolis and surrounding suburbs who are represented by UFCW Local 663 were poised to begin a strike that had been set to start at 5:30 a.m. on April 7. Instead, after months of playing hardball, around 2 a.m. on the morning of the strike the boss caved and met many of the workers’ core demands.

FRSO aims to raise over $130,000 to hire more full-time organizers to work in our national office, grow our fund to purchase a building, and publish more revolutionary literature.

Twin Cities SDS rally for abortion access.

Minneapolis, MN – Bright yellow picket signs stood tall by University Avenue at 1 p.m. on Saturday, April 1, as students and campus community gathered to protest outside the Donhowe building at the University of Minnesota to demand immediate action from administration to expand abortion access on campus. The action was organized by the UMN chapter of Students for a Democratic Society and co-hosted by the Minnesota Abortion Action Committee. Students chanted “Hey Gabel, what do you say? Protect abortion rights today!” calling on University President Joan Gabel to act on their demands to defend women’s and reproductive rights on campus and in the broader state of Minnesota.
