Students protest Trump at West Chester University
West Chester, PA – Hundreds of students protested Donald Trump, who was campaigning at West Chester University, April 25. Students started to gather for the demonstration well before 1:00 p.m., which was when the doors opened for the Trump rally. Students gathered on the quad to discuss protest and demonstration tactics from 9:00 a.m. until noon. Then, students rallied and protested against Trump’s message of racism, sexism and bigotry.
They chanted “We say no! Trump must go!” “Racists go home!” “Black lives matter!” “Fuck Trump!” and “Dump Donald Trump!”
Students for a Democratic Society helped to lead the chants and protests, carrying a banner reading “Dare to struggle, dare to win.”
Trump supporters tried aggressively and unsuccessfully to provoke the protesters, at one point mocking oppressed nationalities chanting, “Blue lives matter.” Tensions were high during the entire protest and cops lined the streets trying to push the protesters back.
From beginning to end, it was clear that protesters were louder, stronger and bolder in their actions. The protest continued for five hours.
