Salt Lake City rally for the Palestinian resistance
Salt Lake City, UT – Over 100 people gathered at the Utah State Capitol on October 15 to stand in solidarity with the Palestinian resistance. The crowd recited chants such as, “Not a nickel, not a dime! No more money for Israel’s crimes!” and “From the river to the sea, Palestine will be free!”
This protest, which was called by the Communist Party of Utah, was in response to Utah Governor Spencer Cox’s show of support for Israel. Protesters condemned Cox’s decision to light up the Capitol with white and blue lights in support of Israel.
In 2021, the Utah state legislature passed SB 186, which prohibits the state from doing business with anyone participating in the BDS movement. “It’s time for leaders to be real leaders and find a solution,” said Mustafa Khader from Utahns for a Just Peace in the Holy Land. “We are Palestinians, a peace-loving people.”
“As we speak, people are being pulled out of the rubble. People are being bombed”, said B Mitu, a speaker from The Amistad Collective. “They're openly admitting to it. They don't try to hide it because our government stands behind them.”
Protesters made signs and a banner for future protests, and collectively responded to a call to action to shame Governor Cox on social media for his support for the Israeli genocide.
