Oshkosh, WI: Community rallies against war with Iran
Oshkosh, WI – Outraged and indignant citizens gathered on busy Main Street in downtown Oshkosh on the morning of January 4 to protest the U.S. military's most recent war crimes in Iraq. The decision to assassinate Iranian military leader Qassem Soleimani in Baghdad last week was a violation of international law and a war crime.
“The rally was a really quick response to a very real situation,” Lydia Christensen, a student at UW-Oshkosh, said. “I felt that going to the rally to speak with others about the situation allowed me to listen and hear a wider breadth of information. However, most important was getting out to talk to other members of the community about how the actions affect all of our futures.”
The rally was received positively with waves and honks from passing cars and pedestrians.
Alvin Järvenpää, Jr., who attended the rally commented, “It was encouraging to receive mostly positive feedback from passersby. I think it's important to be seen standing against a new war so people who feel hopeless realize they aren't alone.”
