Milwaukee Holds Second Rally Against FBI Repression of Anti-War Activists
Milwaukee, WI – Sixty people rallied in downtown Milwaukee on Tuesday Oct. 5 against the FBI repression of anti-war activists. Several of the anti-war activists targeted in the FBI's Sept. 24 raids were due to appear before a grand jury on Tuesday. The rally was organized by the newly-formed Milwaukee Area Defense Network (MADN), a network of progressive and anti-war activists. MADN has held two rallies so far to protest the FBI repression against anti-war activists.
Several Milwaukee anti-war leaders spoke in support of the activists who refused to speak to the grand jury Tuesday in Chicago. Natasha Morgan, a member of Students for a Democratic Society (SDS) and Movimiento Estudiantil Chicano de Aztlan (MEChA), was one of the Milwaukee activists targeted by the FBI. Morgan gave the crowd a powerful account of the events, including the outpouring of support from activists around the world, while many bystanders stopped to hear her story.
George Martin of United for Peace and Justice said, “I remember when we came together to plan for the March on the Republican National Convention in 2008 ... they tried to pin terrorism charges on activists there, but those charges were defeated!”
“We will not let the actions of the FBI intimidate us or slow us down,” said SDS member Jacob Flom. “They have been doing this for so long that we know exactly what to do! The FBI better believe we will be out in streets every single time something like this happens.”
