U.S troops and missiles in Turkey, heading to Syrian border
U.S. troops arrived in Turkey, Jan. 4, where they will be a part of the NATO force running six Patriot missiles near the border with Syria. This marks a new escalation of the U.S. and Western powers’ intervention to destroy Syria’s progressive government.
According to a statement from the U.S. European Command, “Approximately 400 U.S. personnel and equipment from the 3rd Battalion, 2nd Air Defense Artillery based at Fort Sill, Oklahoma, will continue to flow into Turkey over the next several days by U.S. military airlift. The troops will man two Patriot batteries supporting NATO’s mission there. Additional equipment will be moved by sea, arriving later this month.” Troops from Germany and the Netherlands are also arriving.
While U.S. war planners state that the Patriot missile system will not be used to establish a no-fly zone over Syria, the U.S. and its allies have frequently manufactured incidents to justify further military action.
