Tampa protest demands justice for Stephon Clark
Tampa, FL – Two dozen University of South Florida students, workers and community members came together at the MLK plaza, at USF, March 29, to protest the police killing of Stephon Clark. Clark was 22 years old, a father, African American, and unarmed. He was murdered by Sacramento police when he was shot 20 times in his grandmother’s backyard.
The crowd chanted “Indict, convict, send those killer cops to jail!” and attendees delivered speeches. Participant Victor Garcia said “We are in an age when people are demanding a change in gun violence in the USA and at the same time ignoring the gun violence the police bring to Black and Brown communities across the country.”
Jerrica Hoey of Freedom Road Socialist Organization said, “President Trump has said that these killings are a local matter and that he is supportive of law enforcement. Of course he has faith in the police, they're doing their job; to keep and an oppressed nation in bondage.”
