Milwaukee, WI – On October 10, the UW-Milwaukee chapter of Students for a Democratic Society (SDS) and Students for Justice in Palestine joined together for a banner drop. The 30-foot-long banner was held above Maryland Avenue on the pedestrian bridge that crosses over the street. The message on the banner read, “Long live the popular Palestinian resistance, from Milwaukee to Palestine!”

Students chanted loud and clear as many more got on and off of buses. Some of the chants ringing out included “Free, free Palestine!” “From the river to the sea, Palestine will be free!” “When people are occupied, resistance is justified!” and “Justice is our demand, no peace on stolen land!”

“What’s happening in Palestine is something that directly concerns the people here in the U.S. It’s our tax dollars that fund the ability for Israel to continue and expand its policies of genocide and occupation,” said Patricia Fish, a member of UWM SDS.

Fish continued, “Our city and campus are also directly linked to upholding this legacy. Our library and a public school are named after one-time Milwaukee resident Golda Meir, a former Israeli prime minister who infamously said that there was no such thing as the Palestinian people. We have a duty to take part in this struggle.”
