Chicago, IL – Members of Students for a Democratic Society (SDS) at the University of Illinois-Chicago staged street theatre in front of an FBI recruitment event here, Nov. 9. Dressed up as agents of the ‘Federal Bureau of Intimidation,’ activists handed out fliers against FBI repression of anti-war and international solidarity activists who were raided on Sept. 24.

The FBI had six recruiters on the scene for an event that included a DJ, free food, a beanbag toss and prizes. They could not believe what happened next.

“I’m here from the Federal Bureau of Intimidation,” announced SDSer Doug Michel to students in line for free food at the FBI table. “We’ve been active all over the U.S. targeting anti-war and solidarity activists. We’re here to scare the crap out of you and to say that you could be next for voicing your dissent against U.S. foreign policy!”

Many students smirked and laughed when they were handed fliers. Several others who spoke to activists were shocked to hear the news of the raids.

“We’re here to get attention to this absurd witch hunt, where just recently three activists were re-subpoenaed,” said Michel. “The FBI is not welcome at UIC, nor anywhere else. We will not be recruited as fodder against peace and social justice movements.”
