Protesters storm Wisconsin state capitol
Madison, WI – As of 9:00 p.m. this evening, March 9, the Wisconsin state capitol building is packed with protesters who are outraged by Republican moves to strip state workers of their collective bargaining rights.
Students were among those who pushed past police guarding the building; several showed the bruises they received.
Republicans made use of a parliamentary maneuver that separated bargaining rights for public workers from the budget bill, thus eliminating the requirement for the presence of a quorum that is required for votes on legislation that involves spending money.
Many of those inside the capitol intend to remain for the rest of the night.
