Milwaukee reels from last night’s police lakefront shooting
Milwaukee, WI – This evening, June 12, 50 people gathered at the site of last night's police shooting on Milwaukee’s lakefront. Two African Americans, who had been pulled over and allegedly tried to drive away, were shot at least a dozen times by an on-foot officer. This happened at one of the busiest intersections on Milwaukee’s lakefront, in broad daylight, and was witnessed by hundreds of Milwaukeeans.
More information has been made public since last night. The driver of the car, 19-year-old Terry Williams, was shot in the head by the police. He is currently on life support. His girlfriend in the passenger seat was shot at least twice and is in critical condition. They were pulled over for failure to observe a traffic light.
At a press conference today, Milwaukee County Sheriff David Clarke revealed the name of the police officer: Michael Truacks. He has been placed on administrative leave and an investigation is being carried out by the neighboring county’s sheriff department.
Sheriff Clarke is currently being considered for a top position in Donald Trump’s Homeland Security department. This is the latest in a long line of violent incidents where people under Clarke’s supervision have carried out murder, torture and other human rights violations. A movement to have Clarke removed from office has gained momentum in the past few months. This outrageous act will only add fuel to the people’s fire. Demonstrations are expected.
