May Day 2015 march and rally set for LA’s Boyle Heights
Los Angeles, CA – Boyle Heights residents and local groups are organizing a march and rally this May 1. Marchers will assemble at Soto and 1st Streets at 4:00 p.m. and march to Mariachi Plaza at 1st and Boyle Streets.
Carlos Montes, a veteran Chicano leader who is helping to organize the May Day march states, “May Day is our day. We will be marching for legalization, equality and liberation. We want everyone to join us May 1.”
Boyle Heights has a high number of undocumented families and a long history of protesting unjust immigration laws. The demands of the demonstration are “Legalization for all, Deferred Action for all the family, and equality for our people.”
Speakers at the march and rally will include Arlene Inouye, United Teachers LA treasurer; Veronica Ramirez, immigrant rights activist; Lupe Torres, civil rights activist; and Cindy Martinez, a high school student. The rally will feature singers and bands including, Melo Man Ace, Quinto Sol, Aztlan Underground and others.
